Guest692 (guest):Saw multiple fireballs over Duncan,BC Extremely bright with smoke trail. Each one was visible in sky for maybe 3 minutes. Anybody know what they could be?

Jan 23 2011, 3:15 PM
Guest666 (guest):Tonight there was a very bright orange light that appeared to have a smoke trail behind it in Duncan,BC. We watched it for a couple of minutes then it disappeared behind some trees, very bright tho! any ideas?? My husband thinks it was moving to slow to be a meteorite.Got a picture on my phone, but doesnt show just how bright it really was

Jan 23 2011, 3:19 PM
Guest841 (guest):Over Duncan BC Saw single flares, smoke trails and over multiple times being released by a plane as they burnt out a new one was launched at least 4 or 5 times near Mt Prevost

Jan 23 2011, 3:24 PM
Guest692 (guest):Times Colonist reporting it to be flares released from a plane to aid in the search of a injured paraglider

Jan 23 2011, 3:28 PM
Guest666 (guest): oh ok. That makes more sense than a meteor.Thank you

Jan 23 2011, 3:29 PM
Guest666 (guest): we did hear a plane but why didn't we see the lights that are on planes??

Jan 23 2011, 3:35 PM
Guest841 (guest): The flares were way brighter than the plane lights and here is the link to the TC story :describing the rescue of a paraglider at 8PM The Times colonist story says six flares were dropped in all

Jan 23 2011, 3:38 PM
Guest666 (guest): can you try and send the link again. I tried looking at the times colonist websight but havent been able to find it. Thank you

Jan 23 2011, 3:39 PM
Guest841 (guest):Here is the Times Colonist website story from 1 hr ago :timescolonist.com reported a buffalo aircraft dropped 6 flares over an injured paraglider near Mt prevost

Jan 23 2011, 3:41 PM
Guest666 (guest):thank you for your help

Jan 23 2011, 3:42 PM
Guest841 (guest): It was really cool to see with the smoke trails and extremely bright as it lit up the night sky

Jan 23 2011, 3:45 PM
Guest666 (guest): yes it was very cool. Very odd tho as I've never seen anything like that before

Jan 23 2011, 3:46 PM
Guest666 (guest): i was amazed with how bright it was. I'm very glad it was't an airplane on fire like I was thinking

LunarMeteorite*Hunter Note:  A duration of 2 minutes is a bit odd.  Multiple fireballs or a single one?
Indications are that it was NOT a meteor but not enough information at this time.

It has been reported the lights were flares for a search a rescue operation for a lost parasailer on Mt Prevost. Lights lasted too long to be meteors.
