In the early morning hours of March 20, 2014, Erigone is expected to occult the first-magnitude star Regulus[4] as first predicted by A. Vitagliano in 2004. Regulus is about 78 light-years away from Earth and the brightest star in Leo and roughly the 21st brightest star in sky. This may be the best and brightest asteroid occultation ever predicted to occur over a populated area.
Although Erigone will come nowhere near Earth, as it passes in front of the star its shadow of approximately 110 kilometres (68 mi) wide[ will sweep across Nassau and Suffolk counties, all five boroughs of New York City and the Hudson River Valley, with the center of the predicted shadow path following a line roughly connecting New York City, White Plains, Newburgh, Oneonta, Rome and Pulaski before crossing into Canada near Belleville and North Bay, Ontario. Observers in the shadow path may see the star wink out for as long as 14 seconds. The Planetary Society has provided maps to help observers.

Crazy.

18MAR2014 Alexandre Maravilla Toronto 22:23:00 1 second South-South-West over the city of Toronto facing towards the tower from St Clair Ave East and Victoria Park Avenue Green -- Fairly bright. Maybe half the brightness of the moon and about as bright when it exploded. -- I was walking West on St. Clair Ave East (on the North side of the street) about to cross the intersection just West of Victoria Park Avenue and looking towards the CN Tower in the distance just above the houses above the street. I saw the object appear suddenly. It had a long green tail about 3 to 4 times longer than the body and was fairly large. It appeared at about the same height as the observation pod of the tower and was about the same size from my vantage point. One single explosion, though the core remained whole and faded to darkness a split second later. -- It was to the left of the tower from my view point and travelled straight toward it and downward at an almost level path. It then exploded in a round sphere of neon green that was about 3 times the diameter of the object had been before. However, there was still a bright green nucleus that remained intact for a smal fraction of a second before rapidly growing smaller and fading to black. The whole sighting lasted less than a second. There was just enough time for me to say "Whoa!" before it was over.

Flash of blue green light Not as bright as sun, but similar to firework Not determined I was surprised to see this in the afternoon. The sun was over my left shoulder and the sky was already bright. I thought something was falling but the image disappeared before anything would have hit the ground.

18MAR2014 shawn mackey amherst, nova scotia, canada 0510am atlantic aprox. 10 secs in duration i was facing north north east it traveled straight down not out of view until just before tree line multi colours white red orange green in the shape of a large tear drop no sound at least as bright as the moon some flashes of light around main section but very close to main section at first sight it was a little nerve racking then it was one of the coolest things to ever see the multiple colours as it burnt up was amazing

Didn't see anything Didn't see anything I was woken by a sound that sounded like an explosion and then a rumbling sound that shook my two story house it was around 4:00 am

Concerning the reports you are getting near Gaspésie, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia, there was indeed a fireball at around 4:05am Eastern with a loud sonic boom. Someone in Caplan (Quebec) said that the boom was so loud that it woke her up.

Venue:
The 5th Planetary Crater Consortium (PCC) Meeting will be held in the Building 6 (Shoemaker Center for Astrogeology) Roddy conference room at the US Geological Survey in Flagstaff, AZ, Wednesday August 6 through Friday August 8, 2014. The meeting will include time for contributed
oral and poster presentations and sufficient time for general discussion topics. You do not have to present an oral or poster presentation in order to attend the meeting.

We strive to keep the PCC meetings informal and set aside much of the time for general discussion. Dress is casual (as it is throughout Flagstaff), so leave the neckties and nylons at home. As noted below, weather in Flagstaff in mid August is warm (but not hot like the desert) and wet, so plan accordingly.

Registration:
There is no registration fee for the PCC meeting. However, please email Nadine Barlow by July 25, 2014, to let us know if you will be attending so we can plan accordingly for refreshments, etc.

Abstracts:
All participants are strongly encouraged to submit an abstract to the meeting. ABSTRACT DEADLINE IS FRIDAY, JULY 25, 2014, 5:00 PM PDT/MST. Abstracts should be 2-page, single-spaced, LPSC style format. Please submit your abstract in PDF (preferred) or Microsoft Word format to Nadine Barlow. Please indicate whether you are requesting an oral or a poster presentation, or if the abstract is "print only". Abstracts will be posted on the PCC website by Friday, August 1, 2014.
