New England's Dark Day
Wikipedia
..."The earliest report of the darkness came from Rupert, New York, where the sun was already obscured at sunrise. Professor Samuel Williams observed from Cambridge, Massachusetts, "This extraordinary darkness came on between the hours of 10 and 11 am and continued till the middle of the next night."[4] Reverend Ebenezer Parkham, of Westborough, Massachusetts, reported peak obscurity to occur "by 12", but did not record the time when the obscuration first arrived.

At Harvard College, the obscuration was reported to arrive at 10:30 am, peaking at 12:45 pm, and abating by 1:10 pm, but a heavy overcast remained for the rest of the day. The obscuration was reported to have reached Barnstable, Massachusetts, by 2:00 pm, with peak obscurity reported to have occurred at 5:30 pm.[3]

At 2:00 pm, in Ipswich, Massachusetts, roosters crowed, woodcocks whistled, and frogs peeped as if darkness had fallen. A witness reported that a strong sooty smell prevailed in the atmosphere, and that rain water had a light film over it that was made up of particles of burnt leaves and ash.[5] Contemporary reports also indicated ash and cinders fell on parts of New Hampshire to a depth of six inches.[6]"..MORE -

18MAR2014 Jenna Oliver Belleville, ON, Canada 2225 Approx. 10 seconds West White ball of light that burnt up in sky Bright as moon at least Not that I could tell, but I did see other small lights or balls close to the car before I saw the meteor The meteor appeared just above the horizon; it appeared to be very close

18MAR2014 Crystal Frost MISSISSAUGA, Ontario, Canada 22:25/EST approx. 3 seconds I was facing SW. It was falling from left to right. Green glow that faded. The sound of an airplane (there's always the sound of airplanes here, though) Same as moon no Ten times the size of the brightest star in the sky before all the green burned off.

18MAR2014 Brent Toronto 22:25:00 5 NW Blue, with a little orange and red Bright enough to see over the city clearly. No It looked lower in the sky.

18MAR2014 Laura Wellington kinsman, ohio 22:25:00 approximately 40 sec south to north Huge, low, long travel life, brilliant white with long tail with bursts of reds then greens then blues then blast of white then it disappeared. was driving unsure of noises. left a huge streak of moonlit dust trail. visible for at least an hour yes yes unfortunately no pics as I was driving.

18MAR2014 Harry Pilfold TORONTO, ONTARIO, CANADA 22:24 / EST 3-4 sec I was facing west, came almost straight down and slightly north angle Greenish/White light / fireball Brighter than any star or planet, seen in city glow, but not as bright as moon no I have never seen anything this big or long last or bright. Crazy.

18MAR2014 Alexandre Maravilla Toronto 22:23:00 1 second South-South-West over the city of Toronto facing towards the tower from St Clair Ave East and Victoria Park Avenue Green -- Fairly bright. Maybe half the brightness of the moon and about as bright when it exploded. -- I was walking West on St. Clair Ave East (on the North side of the street) about to cross the intersection just West of Victoria Park Avenue and looking towards the CN Tower in the distance just above the houses above the street. I saw the object appear suddenly. It had a long green tail about 3 to 4 times longer than the body and was fairly large. It appeared at about the same height as the observation pod of the tower and was about the same size from my vantage point. One single explosion, though the core remained whole and faded to darkness a split second later. -- It was to the left of the tower from my view point and travelled straight toward it and downward at an almost level path. It then exploded in a round sphere of neon green that was about 3 times the diameter of the object had been before. However, there was still a bright green nucleus that remained intact for a smal fraction of a second before rapidly growing smaller and fading to black. The whole sighting lasted less than a second. There was just enough time for me to say "Whoa!" before it was over.

Jeff  Brower writes,
"We have been plagued with three nights of thunderstorms in all quadrants. Despite heavy lightening, high anvil tops overcast, and 100's of false captures from the strikes I was able to catch 25 meteors on the WSentinel system between local midnight and sunrise on Aug 11/12. Here is a composite showing the radiant rather well for the period.

Currently we have towering Cu in a all three of the four quadrants but I am hopeful we'll have clear sky for tonights PER peak. "

Good luck to all.

Buzzard Coulee, CANADA update 10FEB09

Security cameras caught asteroid fireball
By Rod Nickel, Saskatchewan News Network February 10, 2009
"Security camera footage from a gas station and motel has proven the best tool for researchers to learn the origins of a 15-tonne asteroid that lit up the Prairie sky on Nov. 20. As the asteroid broke apart, it became a giant fireball visible from northern Alberta to Manitoba. Searchers have found pieces in an area southeast of Lloydminster, specifically on a slough called Buzzard Coulee.".... Whole Story at:
