Important note: Meteors/Meteorites DO NOT cause fires. They are cold to only warm when they land UNLESS they are big enough to create an impact crater and kinetic energy is released.
It was most likely an electrical fire from power lines and a power surge or transformer failure.

Initial Sighting Reports:
07JUN2012 Sietske Galama Beirut 20:50 BEIRUT TIME A good 15 seconds before it ;fizzled out in a spiral movement In the northern sky, a little under the Big Dipper Mainly a white wedged shaped cloud with a light at the point. Like the light of a landing plane (we thought intially it was a plne as we are on a landing route) No, left smoke (we assume) It was a wedge shaped cloud, with a light at the point. We thought initially it was a landing plane entering a cloud. It lit that wedge-shaped cloud fomr some 10 seconds, and then suddenly the light tunred a couple of spirals and disappeared. A smoke ring appeared.
07JUN2012 Eric Northern Afghanistan 2300 AFT 60 sec left to right direction. I was facing north west white light and blue tint light moon brightness no Just wanted to report that this was NOT a meteor. It looked almost 100% identical to the incident in DEC 2009 of the failed Russian missle. It was a light with a trail, moving fast, then started a small swirl and shortly turned into a bright light, starting small and growing bigger. The light formed a cone on the west side, and a ball on the east side of the center point. My guess, failed missle.

Hillsboro, Texas
Just saw a large orange fireball. Southwest of Hillsboro, Texas
June 20, 2011 aprox. 11:45 PM CST
Moved South to West
Don't know how long, long enough to double check what I was seeing.
Heard a sound somewhat like a static. No ending noiseVery Bright, - Anon
Austin, TX
I also saw the 06/20/11 fireball over Texas. I'm in Cedar Park (a subdivision of Austin TX). It was kind of windy here last night, so I went outside to investigate at about 11:48 or 11:50 PM Central time and looked up into the northwest part of the sky - just as I looked there the fireball appeared. It was large and blazed downward at a steep angle leaving a greenish trail behind it - I watched it do down until it disappeared behind the row of homes on my street - about a second after that there was a bright green flash that lit up the sky near the horizon so I'm guessing that it probably exploded before hitting the ground (or maybe it did hit the ground?). Didn't hear any sound at all - the event lasted about 4 or 5 seconds. Regards, John Zambrano

20 June 201 approx 1140-1149pm (no clock outside pool area)
San Antonio, TX We were having a late summer night swim when I looked up behind my little ones and saw it behind them, falling straight down from the NorthWest area of town. It was the biggest I've ever seen. Bright green ball with orange around it. It seemed pretty slow, but I was too amazed, I couldn't say a word until it was gone. It never lost it's brightness. I'm located in the city, so I couldn't hear anything. The color was beautiful and the size was unbelievable!! ^_^ -Marsha

I saw the green fireball in Texas last night. I witnessed it from Stephenville, around 11: 45 to 11: 50. It was brilliant bluish/ green in color and had a red- orange hot tail. It was south of me, and lasted only a couple of seconds before it seemed to disappear. It seemed like it was EXTREMELY close and I could have sworn it was in my neighborhood! Craziest thing I have ever seen. -TaraT

St. Augustine, FL Meteor 9:45pm 20JUN2011
Riverview, FL (outside of Tampa, FL) June 20, 2011 approximately 9:45pm
Direction of movement? directly east
Duration of Event (seconds)? 4-5 seconds
Brightness ( in comparison with Venus, Moon, Sun) color, sounds? very bright, it looked like a rocket but it wasn't, as it got to its eastern-most point you could see it break up, it was bright yellow-orange -Lisa Thank you Lisa!
Lakeland, FL
I saw it at about @ 9:45ish from Lakeland, FL. It was HUGE and slow moving and bright green, and very low. -Anon. Thank you Anon!
The Villages, Lake and Marion County, Florida
From The Villages in Lake and Marion County in Florida. We saw the shooting star at about 9:50 p.m. It was bright yellow with a huge fireball and a tail of light that extended a good distance behind. I heard no sound. It was clearly visible for approximately 10 seconds. It moved from right to left with a downward (fairly steep) trajectory. I was facing southeast. It was an incredible sight. Rev. Carol Rawlings-Chambers Thank you!
St.Petersburg, Florida
I live in St.Petersburg, Florida. (address) zip code of 33709....if this helps to pin point the location.) On the evening of Monday, 20 June 2011, I was sitting outside, as I often do, looking at the stars and hoping to see a "falling star". Needless to say, I wasn't disappointed! At approximately 9:42 (PM) I was facing east, when I saw the most beautiful "falling star" I've ever seen!! It seemed to be traveling slightly north-west to south-east and, when I first saw it, it looked to be "about" 35 to 40 degrees above the horizon. It was definetely moving fast! The "tail" was, at first, white and as it continued, the "tail" showed a brighter yellow, orange, and a little deeper orange color, not quite red. The leading edge, at one point near the "end of the show", showed a slight bit of black. After a couple of seconds, it seemed a "chunk" came apart from the main body, and it, too, had a "tail", but not as bright as the main one. It was quite bright. I would compare it to a quarter moon. Imagine, perhaps, seeing a lit match a few feet from you. I did not hear sound associated with the sighting. I would say that the duration of the sighting was 5 seconds. When it "went out", I would say it was about 20 to 25 degrees above the horizon. I don't know if this was a meteor, "space junk", or maybe even "E.T." (who knows!), but I feel very fortunate to have seen it! I'm sure you can tell that I am an "amateur" as far as sightings go, but I have searched the night skies before (mainly in California and Nevada) and I can honestly say I have never seen anything like this before. Anyway.....I hope this is of some interest, and help, to you, and your friends/associates. Please feel free to contact me if I can be of further help. My cell phone number is: (tele #). You have, by way of this e-mail, my e-mail and home address (address). Best wishes.......CONNI S.

Seminole, FL
Yes, I saw this!!!! I can't believe it!! I thought it was a firework, but it was too high, too quiet, and lasted too long!!! I couldn't believe my eyes!! No one believed me when I said I saw the BRIGHTEST shooting star EVER, so I decided to Google it and found your website!!! WOW!! I didn't realize it was a meteor fireball!! Anyway, for details....I live in Seminole, FL (Pinellas County). I took the dogs out about 9:50-ish PM EDT on Jun 20th, 2011; the fireball came from the west and was traveling east across the sky. I did not hear any noises. It was BIG and very BRIGHT, and FAST!!! It was a bluish-green in color!! I kept waiting in hopes of seeing another one!! It was PHENOMENAL!!! I thought I was dreaming and didn't really see what I thought I saw!! LOL!Thanks, -Angela B
Thank you!

Breaking News- Multiple Meteors Worldwide- UK Massive Daytime Bolide Fireball 8DEC2010 9DEC2010
Reports from Readers of Meteor/Meteorite News:
My wife just saw an amazing meteor in the UK.....Unfortunately I still had my head in the car unloading and missed it :-( It must have been very spectacular further north as she observed at looking into the remainder of the glowing light from sunset and with a fair bit of light pollution....very low slow and distant. She reports as follows:
Site Location:Swannington, Leicestershire, England
Latitude: 52°44’16.92”N, Longitude: 01°22’ 51.65”W
Date 8DEC2010 Time: 17h 39m 00s GMT
Visible duration (in seconds): at least 3 Train Details: large fragmenting fireball
Sounds: None apparent Fragmentation: Yes Colours: White
Large fragmenting fireball brighter than Jupiter but not as bright as the full moon travelling apparently east to west seen for the length of the plough directly below the plough, low, (3/4 above horizon 1/4 below plough) Initial start of hot flight not noticed so could have lasted longer. Seen through light pollution and probably too distant to hear associated sounds/detonations. Report by Graham Ensor in the UK
Other reports from the UK-
And (guest) reported on elp allsky : just saw a bright white/blue/purple meteor with a long orange/yellow trail over Newcastle Upon Tyne, UK
Guest919 (guest): just saw a fireball go across Melton Mowbray, United Kingdom... it as quite low and went really fast... trail of like fire behind it!! any way of knowing what it was at all?
Guest521 (guest): Saw fireball just before it had a tail which broke up as it sped NNE to SSW over Glasgow, Scotland at 1735hrs. It was the comparative size of the Moon which was low in the west at the time.
Guest366 (guest)reported on elp allsky : I saw it over Sheffield at 17:35 GMT. Very impressive.
Guest995 (guest): Saw it 17.35 GMT Dudley, England travelling SW.Could it be 1st stage of Falcon 9 rocket re-entering atmosphere?
The SPA Meteor Section have so far received about 15 reports of a bright fragmenting fireball from across northern England and Scotland see at apporoximately 2010 12 08 17:30 - 17:45 UT. I'm sure there'll be more on this shortly. reported by David E.

fiat128: Yesterday at aoubt 5:00 PM (more or less) I saw a meteor fall in Juarez Mexico, just across the border before. The angle was nearly straight down (about 85-89 degrees). I've seen several meteors before but this is the first one I every saw in the daylight. The fireball went out before it crossed the horizon so I guess it burned up. I can't find any mention of the event on the internet, have you guys heard anything about it? My name is Wiley Robinson and I will try to get more specific information today such as the coordinates, direction etc.

Lasted 3 to 5 seconds, large and long orange tail started then stopped, then main portion, thought at first it was a flair from Naval gunnery range, but too large and flew in wrong directions had me stunned watching it at first, lol. reported on elp allskyMeteor/Meteorite News:
