Villavicencio, Columbia Bolide Meteor Fireball 16NOV2011

Villavicencio, Columbia Bolide Meteor Fireball ~6:30-6:40 pm local 16NOV2011
About 6:30 - 6:40 pm at 4 12' North 73 34' West, we (me and my wife) saw a VERY large whitish meteor (unidentified object) falling, flying from North (litle/about 10-20 degrees to the northwest) to south (southeast). It was white in color, no tail, I could swear it was like a small rectangle with rounded edges, which makes me think it could have been a falling satellite or rocket stage, or some reentry craft. The fact I could distinguish an actual form, and not just a falling dot or dash in the sky shows how large it had to be. May be 1/10~1/15 of a full moon. Anyway we couldn't see it fall till the end, because of a tree blocking the view at the end. I have seen a lot of falling stars (meteorites) in my life, never one as bright and strange as this. It definitely wasn't a plane or something atmospheric, because it was moving too fast. Haven't read about any special tests. The Phobos Grunt mission is still in orbit. So actually I'm a little baffled. Any news on what it actually was would be very interesting to us. -Linas  Thank you Linas!

I went inside for maybe 5-10 minutes & went to see if I was nuts...and gone! I tried to find it- with naked eyes, I think it travelled north east.-Samantha  Thank you Samantha!

At 7:38 pm on Tuesday, November 15th, I watched a large whitish blue fireball cross the sky almost horizontally from north west to south east. It lasted about 5 seconds and then completely disappeared. At first it looked like a large shining satellite and then grew larger and brighter like a welder's torch. The size of the light before it disappeared was as big as a streetlight from about 300 feet. It was beautiful, astonishing and strange all at once. We thought it may have been space junk burning up.-Pauline James  Thank you Pauline!

Enumclaw, Washington Fireball Meteor ~7:55 pm PST 15NOV2011
Saw the fireball last night, Nov. 15, 2011 at about 7:55pm. It was huge and VERY close! The colors were greens, blues, oranges, white, reds and a purple color; and the tail was the same colors and was almost as wide as the fireball itself. It was headed in a southeasterly direction. I couldn't hear anything but every single dog around was barking - they must have been able to hear something. A friend Facebooked me and said she saw it over Richland, Washington as well.  We live in Enumclaw, Washington (just outside Seattle) and I saw a HUGE fireball with a long tail shooting across the sky in a southeasterly direction. It was awesome and a bit scary, way too close! I've never seen anything like it! I'm so excited about seeing it - glad I was outside at the right time! Does anyone know where it hit?
I saw something similar back in 1989 while living in Sun Valley, Idaho. It wasn't this big, or close though. AWESOME!!!!-Dee Ann  Thank you Dee Ann!

We've got a significant meteor, possibly also a significant meteorite fall: http://lunarmeteoritehunters.blogspot.com/2011/11/dryden-ontario-meteor-9nov2011.html I'm quite impressed with the video. The meteor is slow-moving, long-lasting, and has produced an obvious trail of material. Radar is interesting as well: If the upload worked, this should be an animated gif showing radar data from the Canadian national weather network. Around 21.00 I spotted a bright, green light. It was travelling very fast and was only visible for a couple of seconds.-Emmeline Klingvall, Anderstorp, Sweden  Thank you Emmeline!

Växjö, Sweden
I saw this light yesterday, wasn't sure what it was.
I have seen a meteor before in my life, but since it's also nearing the end of the year, for all I knew it could have been fireworks...
But fireworks are usualy close when you see them, so then I would have heard something. And the strange thing was it only moving verticaly down. (or horizontal in the direction I was looking in, Beeing 10 degrees off East direction.
How do I explain... There is this street running almost perfectly West-East, determaned by the North star. When looking in the East direction, it was about 10 degrees towards the south. So in between East and South-East so to say....
It looked as if it was going perfectly verticaly down. It was bright white. As bright as the moon was yesterday... (we had a clear sky.) We were watching Jupiter for once, since it haddnt been a clear sky for a while, and I just recently got a telescope. So we tried it out. Later on the group moved to an other spot looking at the moon. I was picking up something from a friend of mine. When walking back, I checked my phone for the time immidiatly when i saw it, Though I sort of forgot the time, But it was around 21:30. At least later than 21:22 because I called my friend when i was at his place, because his lights were of, And i diddnt wanne go up 3 stories to knock and find out that he wasn't home.  I was in for perhaps 5 min, went out again, walked back. And then I saw it.
I quickly took a print screen from Google Maps, The red dot beeing me, I live on Campus, And I'm pretty sure about my position at that time, Cause I remember looking at other people that were talking whether they had seen it as well. So therfore I know my position cause of that memory... Also the angle, I saw it go behind the University, But on the part where you're looking at the side of it. So lenghtwise speaking... My appologies for not being able to explain this is the most straight forward English. Comparing to what the other people from, someone from Gotland saw it on the Western sky, that means that It was somewhere between us... To get back to the storie, my friend were watching at the moon when I got back, basically almost in the same diretion as the meteor occurred, but no one has seen in..... It was to the right of the moon and therefore perhaps just out of sight, behind the building I live it. I hope my info is helpful. Good luck to you all and in your search. And thanks for letting me know that what I saw was indeed a meteor :D With Kind Regards, Friso,
International Student at Linnaeus University, Växjö, Sweden, But from The Netherlands.Thank you Friso!

Illinois / Wisconsin Lime Green Meteor Fireball 13NOV2011

Morris, IL Lime Green Meteor Fireball ~9:50 PM CST 13NOV2011
I noticed a lime green ball of light with a thick tail in the sky around 9:50pm central time on November 13, 2011. I was in Morris, IL on airport road, heading east. The fireball was heading west to east in a diagonal direction. The light was extremely bright and the falling object was rather large. The light lasted for 2-5 seconds. The tail disappeared in a sparkling type fashion. It didn't appear to look like regular "shooting stars". It was pretty incredible to see. No noises were heard and it didn't seem to appear in a flash. It was about 50km in the sky and dropped to apr 30km.
Thanks, Meaghan from Morris, IL  Thank you Meaghan!

Wheaton, Illinois Meteor 9:52 pm 13NOV2011
On 11/13/11 9:52 pm CST in southern Wheaton, Illinois - a white ball of light heading in a eastern, slightly southern, direction; lasted approx. 2 secs from my view through my glass balcony door. No sound or flash noticed.-Krista  Thank you Krista!

Milwaukee, WI Meteor ~9:30 13NOV2011
I live in Milwaukee, WI and last night at approx 9:30 PM my sister and I witnessed what appeared to be a meteor traveling in a southeastern direction toward Chicago. We didn't spot it until it was about 20-30 degrees above the horizon, it was extremely bright, with a yellow-greenish color and a very long trail behind it. I would say it lasted about 4-5 seconds before disappearing over the horizon, it did appear as though some pieces broke off just as it got above the horizon. Incredible sight!-Matt Fridley  Thank you Matt!

Milwaukee, WI
I also saw the meteor reported by two observers in IL. I'm in Milwaukee. It was the brightest thing in the SE sky, fell about 2 seconds, mostly down, slightly to the east, at 9:52 p.m. I did not detect, as previous poster did, a lime green color. Just very bright, with a thick tail. No sound. This is the second biggest I've ever seen (biggest during the Perseid shower in summer 2009).
Peggy  Thank you Peggy!

Chicago, Illinois
Hello, I also saw a very large, very bright meteor southeast of Chicago heading northeast from a southwestern direction. I was located near 1-57 and 119th St in Chicago. The light was larger than the airplane's headlight that it barely missed. The time was a little before 10pm (a few minutes before the nightly testing of the air sirens). The meteor was the brightest I have ever seen, the largest by far (like I said, at least three times as large as the approaching airplane headlight that was about 10 miles from landing at midway airport), and had a very long tail that ended with a firework like finish (sparkly). It lasted for a relatively long time as well (about 3 seconds). It was pretty amazing, but so close that I looked for a while to make sure it did not hit any approaching aircraft since the timing (the ten o'clock bank) and proximity to the approaching air route made that a possibility. The next approaching plane I saw had banked to the east, possibly to avoid it if the pilot saw it coming. Again, this was a very spectacular and large meteor. It seemed to be more than simply a 'falling star' though I did make a mighty wish!!-Candyla B  Thank you Candyla!

Glen Ellyn, Illinois
Read a few posts about this object so thought I would share what I saw last night:
I am in Glen Ellyn, Illinois, and saw a large glowing object descending eastward, at approximately 9:50 pm, lasting for about 3 - 5 seconds. This ball of light appeared bluish in color from my perspective, with a whitish glow around it, then dissapeared. This object did not streak in a similar manner as meteors I have seen in the past. It was unusual as it was much bigger and brighter. Amazing sight! ~lisa  Thank you Lisa!

Al Nadha Area, Dubai, UAE. Meteor 22:50 13NOV2011
I was sitting in my balcony today Nov 13 2011 at about 2250 hrs at Al Nadha Area, Dubai, UAE. and I was looking at the clear moon light sky and I saw a streak of light, I wonder if this was a meteor, which came burning down entering the atmosphere. As the trajectory was too high and curvature too streamlined for anything else even a fire cracker or something. It just streaked and extinguished in the sky. It was there for count of 5 or that is all I saw the very end of the streak. I was browsing the web on whether someone else had any sightings and ended up on your webpage. Cheers, Manoj Mahendran  Thank you Manoj!

The meteor was heading north and moving very fast! It looked about the size of a small car and was a brilliant white. the trajectory and height was such that it looked like it was heading toward the M4 motorway but may have stopped short due to a sudden loss of altitude.

I'd like to report a possible meteor event in/near the south Leicestershire village of South Kilworth, UK. The event occurred at approximately 19:45 above or slightly to the west of South Kilworth. The meteor was travelling from a southerly direction heading north and broke apart at low altitude close to the village. The meteor had a faint greenish tinge, and was relatively slow compared to other meteors I've seen during recent showers. The meteor looked to break apart or have distinct debris trail as it came into view, as we travelled along the A4304 from Market Harborough towards Lutterworth. We spotted the meteor as we approached the village of South Kilworth from a distance of half a mile, and estimate that it broke apart under 5000ft within 1-2 miles of the village. Although it is difficult to judge distances at night and with fast moving objects, but these are my best guesses. There wasn't any other meteor type object in the sky, or any fireworks being fired and the tell tail sounds associated with them, especially afterwards as we remained outside the car for 10 minutes. I strongly doubt a false sighting as a firework, as the meteor was travelling in a straight line towards the ground - not an arc/crescent trajectory as expected with a ground fired rocket. Did anyone else see anything at this time or location in the sky above South Kilworth? How would I find out if the authorities tracked the object?

Lambourn, Berkshire, UK Meteor approx. 19:40 13NOV2011
Saw from Garden from about 245 to 270 deg tracking S to N around 35 down to 20 deg elevation
As with the tiverton rpt around 10X brighter than Venus distinct green, yellow, orange components looked to break into 3 or 4 close spaced segments a fraction of a second before fading. And duration of slightly more than 2 seconds If I had to describe how I imagined a large space junk re-entry event to look this would fit. FYI I happened to be on my roof fixing an antenna at the time and was looking directly at the object When it entered. I had a perfect view For scale if I hold my hand at arm’s length then the track width appeared half the width of my little finger. Entry speed seemed considerably slower than a “normal” zip and its gone meteor but much much faster than an aircraft. There were NO sounds heard. If I had to guess with the angles the object entered over the far SW of England perhaps Devon or Cornwall counties Possibly out over the English channel/Atlantic. Obviously guessing as I have no idea of the true size of the object but it was quite spectacular and very bright. Cheers, Shayne Jones  Thank you Shayne!

South Wales, UK Meteor 19.45 13NOV2011
Sighted from a small village called Ynysddu this evening. It was much much brighter than venus, and about half the size of the moon relative to where I was, and lasted about two seconds until falling behind the horizon with a soft blue tail light...it crossed the sky from South to West. First meteor I've ever seen, and it was absolutely beautiful. -Josh Cox Thank you Josh!

Maesteg, Wales 19:15 PM approx 13NOV2011

M4 towards Bristol from Swindon Bright Green Fireball 7:33 PM 13NOV2011
Driving along M4 towards Bristol from Swindon saw very bright fireball cross Motorway from South to North . Time 7.33 pm lasted about 5 seconds Fireball had greenish tinge to it, brightest I have ever seen. -Robert C.  Thank you Robert!

Near Newport After M4 Bridge UK heading West to South Wales 13th November 2011 Approx 19:00 - 19:30
Approx 19:00 to 19:30. Heading to South Wales from Bristol along M4 and saw a light (no tail). Pointed out to my wife and then realised it was travelling fast South to North (ish, I was driving). Suddenly 'burned out' like a meteor with a long greenish tail I think the whole thing appeared green before burnout. descending but fairly horizontal IMO. Not a firework IMO. Episode lasted approx 2 - 5 seconds -WP Thank you WP!

Feniton, Devon, UK Green Meteor ~7:30 pm 13NOV2011
I saw meteor or fireball last night (Sunday 13 November) at approx 7.30pm from my garden in Feniton, Devon, in the western sky. It lasted approximately a second but was the brightest object of this type that I have seen in my entire 45 years! Stunning! Before it faded there was a touch of green light to it. Didn't think anyone else would have seen it but so chuffed to see not the only one! -Steve Upsher  Thank you Steve!

M4 West bound, at about 7:30pm
Whilst driving to Cardiff last night along the M4 West bound, at about 7:30pm, I saw a huge streak across the sky, from South to North, slower moving than the shooting stars i have seen and a lot bigger (closer?) it was very bright even though visibility in the sky was quite poor. It burned white then turned a luminous green, lasting a good 3 seconds before fading out. - MB

Shaftsbury, UK Meteor ~7:40 pm 13NOV2011
I live South West of Salisbury near Shaftsbury and approx 7:40 on Sun 13th Nov I saw a bright light directly overhead heading North West. From where I live I would estimate it was travelling in the direction of Bristol/Gloucester. It was the largest natural object I've seen at night and it was pure brilliant white like an arc lamp with a bluish tint to the front and a whitish tail behind (Presumably breaking up?). It was in view long enough for me to say to a neighbour 'look at that' and point, so probably lasted two or three seconds. What was unusual is that it appeared to be travelling parallel to the ground and though travelling fast it was much slower than any shooting stars I've ever seen. The skies were clear and I would estimate that it was actually quite low. The village I live in has no street lights or light polution so is ideal for star gazing. Glad I was in the right place at the right time to have seen this one. -Tony  Thank you Tony!

Devon, UK 1930UTC 13th November 2011
A greenish body, slightly elongated, with a tail, which I spotted towards the northwest of my location (Farringdon, Devon) at an elevation of roughly 45 degrees. It was much brighter and bigger than any shooting star I have seen before - to give an idea of brightness, I thought first of all it was a firework. Lasted about 2 seconds after I first spotted it, moving straight and downwards with an apparent trajectory of about 30 degrees off horizontal. -Edward Carroll  Thank you Edward!

Loughborough, UK, 13/11/2011, 19:36.
Looking due West I was fortunate enough to see what was presumably the same object noted by Andy (and maybe others). Significantly brighter than anything I’d expect to see and faster moving (quite used to “lights in the sky” in that view thanks to the proximity to East Midlands Airport); must only have been a few seconds before it was lost from view behind (single storey) houses. Direction it was heading in must have been north of west, though by how much was hard to be sure, and the trajectory certainly appeared to be heading “down” so to speak – so either truly descending or very high up. Definite implication of colour – though oddly what struck me was the fact that colour was there rather than exactly what the colour was, which sounds odd but there you go!  One final point is that a few seconds after the event there was a rumble; whether that was truly associated with the object itself is impossible to say.-Paul.  Thank you Paul!
