Initial Meteor Sighting Report-
28DEC2013 Wayne Edmondson Manistee, MI, USA 17:15 EST 20-30 seconds Looking southwest, it appeared to go straight down over the far southwest sky. White tail, fireball, red backlit sky Bright as a star at night. Very big fireball Yes, split into 2 or more pieces and made the fireball flicker My son and I watched thinking it was a jet stream, but the front kept getting brighter like a fireball. That's when we realized it was a meteor, and watched it until it broke up and burned out. It seems like it lasted a while, about 20-30 seconds, maybe more. Hard to compare to a split second shooting star.

Initial Meteor Sighting Report-
27DEC2013 Michael S between Benton & Hot Springs AR 1052 PM Central about 4 seconds was facing west // object was left (west/northwest) fell straight down huge green ball with tail bright as a full moon went out for a second (i assumed passing thru a cloud layer) then back and continued straight down (no sound noticed as i was in car westbound on I-30 it was a huge green ball with a bit of blue tinge. fell straight down. wish i had been out of car, i expect i would have seen higher and longer and possibly heard something. can't believe how big it was & fairly slow straight down with a tail and an eerie green glow. wish i had a picture!

Very light blue and then fireball-red/orange Almost as the sun due to the fireball. No It was amazing, never seen something like that

John Shakeshaft Jr ESCONDIDO, CA, USA 2100 SPAN OF 2-8 SEC TRAVELED MULTIPLE DIRECTIONS WHITE HINT OF ORANGE, A FEW BROKE UP WHILE ENTERING BETWEEN MERCURY AND VENUS SOME BROKE APART LARGER THAN AVERAGE NOTICED

Krystle Lord-Keller- My husband and I were walking in Costa Mesa, CA tonight and saw two large balls of fire fly through the sky. They were incredible, one was at 8:52PM and the next one was about ten minutes later. I have seen many shooting stars but this was different, it was sparkling and definetly round in shape, then it fizzled out so beautifully. The first one was more of a golden yellow and the second one was lighter in color but still bright! They were amazing.

26DEC2013 Debbie Buffalo. MO USA 17:45 pm cst <20 seconds east to west facing north white/blue/green with orange flames/sparks Bright as Venus not that I saw Didn't hear anything, thought it was a plane going down and then lost it behind some trees

26DEC2013 Marj Holt, Missouri 17:45:00 10 seconds facing north, straight ahead yellow with green, then all yellow before flaming out very bright, then dimming, then out yes no photo. Large bright head tapering to point with sparks.

26DEC2013 DAN BARBER GRIMES, IOWA 1735/CENTRAL/PM 15 SECONDS CENTRAL IOWA, E/SE TO W/NW NO SOUND, WHITE, GREENISH, BLUISH, TRAIL OF ORANGE SPARKS VENUS BEHIND looked like the meteorite that hit russia recently. stayed almost parallel, did not drop in altitude, but burned out. appeared to be low altitude

NEOs Close Approaches DEC2013
At the time of the original posting there were 2 known  NEOS with an approach of 10LD or less; I expect a large increase from this number. ; currently there are now 9 known NEOs with an LD of less than 10 Lunar Distances.  Dec 2013 expect to see several large meteors, fireballs and even bolides!  Have all sky cameras ready, dashcams jammed and security cameras known and ready to roll.  Thank you!  File your sighting reports at
