Initial Meteor Sighting Reports-
My name is Abby, When walking to my bus stop in benton harbor michigan i saw something green and fast going across the sky around 7:05 am totally caught me by surprise

26SEP2013 Jim Rickner Grand Rapids, Michigan 7:10 Eastern 3 seconds West to South East Green / Blue Very Bringht / fireworks Yes I've never seen one before

26SEP2013 Michelle Wilson Liberty Township, OH 07:05 EST 9 United States White with firetail extremely bright broke apart Fairly large, brief flame tail, then broke apart

26SEP2013 Emerson Davis Indianapolis, Indiana USA 07:03 EST 4 sec I was facing due south and it streaked from right to left Golden Yellow, silent About as bright as moon Yes, fragments stayed directly in line with meteor, directly behind it It was unusually dim for a meteor, however it did have the same speed

26SEP2013 Peter M Mishawaka, IN 7:03am EDT 3 sec W-E across southern sky greenish hue around edge of streak, white in middle. no sound audible from my location brightness similar to full moon in a clear sky Parts not visibly falling off but it did flicker once or twice before going out. Here's what I wrote up shortly after seeing it so I wouldn't forget: "A bright streak, occurring from west to east across the southern sky and lasting 2-3 seconds, was visible this morning between 7:00 and 7:05am EDT. It was observed from SouthPaw Farm, south of Mishawaka, IN (16323 Roosevelt Rd, Mishawaka IN 46544). The streak was very bright and had a slight greenish hue to it, especially around the edges. It maintained steady brightness at first, before fading somehwat and flickering once or twice at the end. The appearance was somewhat like a firework or flare, but given the location and time neither of these seem logical. My best guess is that it was a meteor of some kind."

26SEP2013 John Louisville, KY 7:03:00 10 seconds Facing north, the fireball went west to east Orange blue and green Very bright like fireworks in the sky It seemed to be getting brighter as it fell and appeared to be shedding It freaked me out at first as I wasn't sure what it was. I feared it was a plane that had exploded and burned up. It was huge and very impressive.

26SEP2013 Chris Roush Jasper, IN United States 07:00 AM EDT 3 sec W-E white with blue tail same as moon No Just over the trees at US 231 near S. Witz Rd.

26SEP2013 Kathy Northern Ohio 700 5 sec West to East Orange-Red moon NA - too dark to tell Observed at I-75 mile marker 139 heading southbound. Two other vehicles also saw the event and slowed down while driving.

Initial Meteor Sighting Reports-
16SEP2013 Lee Big Bear Lake, CA, USA 23:06:00 8-10 secs Noticed it at the zenith, traveling east by south east, quite quick Remarkably green, white tail, pulsing slightly on it's descent, guessing based on it's brightness and trajectory I would think it impacted at some point - it was still glowing brightly when it dropped below tree line / horizon I'd estimate 2x Venus Not that i saw The brightest meteor I've ever personally seen. Twas quite something.

16SEP2013 Edward Van Nuys, CA 23:18:00 2 Seconds before I lost sight North to South Greenish/White Streek, halfway down was a small burst Brighter than Venus but not brighter than moon. Looked like there was. Looked like it was heard straight towards ground. It was heading towards horizon. 8 inches off horizon.

16SEP2013 TESSA HALL LA VERNE, CALIFORNIA 11;10 PM 9 SECONDS NORTH GREEN WITH AN ORANGE TAIL MOON BUT SLIGHTLY BRIGHTER IT HAD A LONG TAIL THAT WAS ORANGE AND PURPLE WITH GIANT PARTICLES FALLING OFF THE END OF IT IT GREW SO MUCH LARGER WHEN IT CAME CLOSER TO THE EARTH, THEN WHEN IT WAS OUT OF OUR EYE SIGHT A MASSIVE WHITE FLASH HAPPENED, SO WE FEEL IT MIGHT HAVE HIT SOMETHING. WE ARE IN SO MUCH SHOCK AT THE LARGE SIZE IT GREW THE CLOSER IT CAME TO THE EARTH, AND IT LOOKED AS IF IT WAS SPINNING AS WELL.

16SEP2013 Jsciarp sedona, az 2320 mountain standard 4 seconds west yellow/orange. red flash half sun far away, dark, no fragmentation seen exploded, hit in ocean off California

16SEP2013 Michael Chapman Bullhead City, AZ USA 11:10pm AZ mountain time 3-4 sec. west blueish white with a large flash and flickering. A bit brighter than the moon. Broke apart than lost it behind the horizon. I didn't get a direct view at first but watched it disappear beyond horizon.

NASA Confirms!
Monday night, at 8:18 PM Central Time, a baseball size fragment of a comet entered Earth's atmosphere above Alabama, moving southwest at a speed of 76,000 miles per hour. At such speeds, fragile cometary material will not last long - Just 3 seconds after hitting the atmosphere, the meteor disintegrated 25 miles above the town of Woodstock, producing a flash of light rivaling the waxing crescent Moon. Because it penetrated so deep into Earth's atmosphere, sonic booms were produced, which were heard by some eyewitnesses.

A montage of the fireball as seen by 5 NASA cameras in the South East is attached, along with the meteor's trajectory, which lies south of Birmingham. Also attached is a diagram showing the meteor's orbit, which extends well beyond the orbit of Jupiter and is similar to those of comets. It was not a member of any known meteor shower.

A fireball is a meteor brighter than the planet Venus - the fireball seen Monday night was 15 times brighter than Venus.

The NASA cameras observing this event are located at Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville; the James Smith Planetarium near Chickamauga, Georgia; the Tellus Science Museum in Cartersville Georgia; and the North Georgia College Observatory near Dahlonega, Georgia.

Bill Cooke

Cassidy Atlanta, GA 20:15:00 4 sec S Bright white light with purple/orange outline. Much larger than shooting star As bright as the sun No fragmentation I could see disappeared behind a sky scraper so I couldnt watch it fall all the way

Wally Lancaster Wetumpka al USA 20:19:00 3sec E-W Bright orange Like a fireball Yes tail Biggest I've seen 200 ft in air

Elizabeth Oswald Lawrenceburg, TN USA 20:17:00 About 5 seconds I was facing East and it shot across the sky South Lit up like a green Roman candle Very bright! About like a full moon Just the trail behind it that I could tell Prettiest thing I've ever witnessed!

Kendra Reports Meteor from Trenton, GA- First Reported!
Wow! Really interesting. I live in GA -- Trenton, to be exact, which is very close to Chickamauga. Anyways, tonight (I guess a bit after 9 PM) me and three other people were out in the city watching these large bats when we seen this bright green streak fly nearby -- it didn't *look* like it was very high up or very far away, although I'm sure it really was. Anyways, it streaked green (going in an upward then downward direction) for several long seconds, then went orange and finally died out.
We've been trying to figure out what on earth it was. Strange! It was so weird. At first I thought it was a firework, but it most definitely was not. It also didn't make any sound, but was so very bright! It looked so close, too. We don't think it was a falling star, but it's really tough because we do not know about it.
Anyways, it was really interesting & I wonder if you guys would have any ideas what it could be? Would love to hear your thoughts. :)
Yes,  You saw one!  Did you make a wish?   Thank you Kendra!

Breaking News- Daytime Earth-grazing Meteors Near Sunset Possible 28-31AUG2013

[IMO-News] Daytime Craterids showing surprise activity *right now*
- Earth-grazing meteors near sunset possible 28-31AUG2013 or longer
Credit- Geert Barentsen 2013
http://www.geert.io/daytime-craterids-2013.html
Geert Barentsen writes,

"Hi all,

I am currently attending the Meteoroids conference in Poland. At the
meeting, Prof. Peter Brown has just alerted us to the fact that the Daytime
Craterids (DCR) have unexpectedly shown up in the Canadian Meteor Orbit
Radar (CMOR). You can see the radar detection for yourself at:

http://fireballs.ndc.nasa.gov/cmor-radiants/

The same shower has previously shown outbursts in 2003 and 2008. A recent
paper by Wiegert et al. discussing those events is available here:

http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/j.1365-2966.2011.18432.x/pdf

If the previous outbursts are anything to go by, the shower might last for
several days and increase in activity. Whether this might produce meteors
at visible wavelengths is essentially unknown, but amateur astronomers at
Southern latitudes are strongly encouraged to keep an eye out for
earth-grazing meteors near sunset.

I have put together this animation which shows locations on Earth where
such earth-grazers *might* be visible over the next 24 hours:
