Crazy.

18MAR2014 Alexandre Maravilla Toronto 22:23:00 1 second South-South-West over the city of Toronto facing towards the tower from St Clair Ave East and Victoria Park Avenue Green -- Fairly bright. Maybe half the brightness of the moon and about as bright when it exploded. -- I was walking West on St. Clair Ave East (on the North side of the street) about to cross the intersection just West of Victoria Park Avenue and looking towards the CN Tower in the distance just above the houses above the street. I saw the object appear suddenly. It had a long green tail about 3 to 4 times longer than the body and was fairly large. It appeared at about the same height as the observation pod of the tower and was about the same size from my vantage point. One single explosion, though the core remained whole and faded to darkness a split second later. -- It was to the left of the tower from my view point and travelled straight toward it and downward at an almost level path. It then exploded in a round sphere of neon green that was about 3 times the diameter of the object had been before. However, there was still a bright green nucleus that remained intact for a smal fraction of a second before rapidly growing smaller and fading to black. The whole sighting lasted less than a second. There was just enough time for me to say "Whoa!" before it was over.

Flash of blue green light Not as bright as sun, but similar to firework Not determined I was surprised to see this in the afternoon. The sun was over my left shoulder and the sky was already bright. I thought something was falling but the image disappeared before anything would have hit the ground.

18MAR2014 shawn mackey amherst, nova scotia, canada 0510am atlantic aprox. 10 secs in duration i was facing north north east it traveled straight down not out of view until just before tree line multi colours white red orange green in the shape of a large tear drop no sound at least as bright as the moon some flashes of light around main section but very close to main section at first sight it was a little nerve racking then it was one of the coolest things to ever see the multiple colours as it burnt up was amazing

Didn't see anything Didn't see anything I was woken by a sound that sounded like an explosion and then a rumbling sound that shook my two story house it was around 4:00 am

Concerning the reports you are getting near Gaspésie, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia, there was indeed a fireball at around 4:05am Eastern with a loud sonic boom. Someone in Caplan (Quebec) said that the boom was so loud that it woke her up.

5th Planetary Crater Consortium Meeting
August 6-8, 2014
US Geological Survey, 2255 N. Gemini Drive, Flagstaff, AZ

Venue:
The 5th Planetary Crater Consortium (PCC) Meeting will be held in the Building 6 (Shoemaker Center for Astrogeology) Roddy conference room at the US Geological Survey in Flagstaff, AZ, Wednesday August 6 through Friday August 8, 2014. The meeting will include time for contributed
oral and poster presentations and sufficient time for general discussion topics. You do not have to present an oral or poster presentation in order to attend the meeting.

We strive to keep the PCC meetings informal and set aside much of the time for general discussion. Dress is casual (as it is throughout Flagstaff), so leave the neckties and nylons at home. As noted below, weather in Flagstaff in mid August is warm (but not hot like the desert) and wet, so plan accordingly.

Registration:
There is no registration fee for the PCC meeting. However, please email Nadine Barlow by July 25, 2014, to let us know if you will be attending so we can plan accordingly for refreshments, etc.

Abstracts:
All participants are strongly encouraged to submit an abstract to the meeting. ABSTRACT DEADLINE IS FRIDAY, JULY 25, 2014, 5:00 PM PDT/MST. Abstracts should be 2-page, single-spaced, LPSC style format. Please submit your abstract in PDF (preferred) or Microsoft Word format to Nadine Barlow. Please indicate whether you are requesting an oral or a poster presentation, or if the abstract is "print only". Abstracts will be posted on the PCC website by Friday, August 1, 2014.

Two Meteorites Have Been Recivered from the Korean Fireball Event of 09MAR2014  There MAY be 10s to HUNDREDs yet to be found!

I managed to find some interesting news (with good pictures) in South Korean media about the meteorite found in the city of Jinju, Gyeongsang province.

At least two fragments are described, one found in a greenhouse and other in the field.

These two camera observations allowed a very good multistation
trajectory and solar system orbit. The entry trajectory was derived with
the fb_entry Excel sheet program and the solar system orbit by means of
(a slightly modified) M. Langbroek Excel sheet.

It appears that this was most probably an XHE shower meteor:

The beginning height of the luminous flight was 110 km and the flash at
65.7 km with something visible in the DSLR image down to about 62.8 km.
The entry slope was 27 degrees.
The entry velocity was derived as 35.26 km/s with an estimated
uncertainyt of +-0.1 km/s.
The velocity had decreased till the flash by only about 1 km/s ( to
about 34 km/s ).

The geocentric radiant is 252.14+-0.1 , +51.74+-0.2 and Vgeo 33.37 km/s .

The collision with the Earth was 12.6 days prior to the time of perihelion.

The aphelion of this orbit is at the distance of 5.03 AU from the Sun.
IF this is characteristic to this shower, then (considering also the
peri value of 196.46) the orbits pass quite close to the Jupiter orbit.
And IF there are mainly random encouters with Jupiter, then the shower
would be quite short lived. But maybe there are practically only
resonant meteors left in the shower (?) This orbit is suggestive of
either the 9/4 or 7/3 mean motion resonance with Jupiter.

We had in the cameras of Ilkka Yrjölä and myself some probable minor
activity from this radiant during a few nights around this, but no other
multistation meteors in these.
