I was standing near Aborn and White Road near the foothills of East San Jose, California.
I saw an unusual meteor in that it was like a fat car on it's side pushing down into the atmosphere with lots of sparks, not unlike a fireworks type of effect. It was fat. Then, it stopped quickly and I believe it was going in a trajectory of Yosemite, because it was not going at all toward Alum Rock Park but maybe 100 or 200 miles over about 30 miles to the East of Mt. Hamilton.
Because of the unusual, fat sparkler like effect, I think it could have been some kind of space junk put there by man. But not sure.

If the comet does hit Mars, the effect on our neighboring planet will be monumental and it would mark the second time in recorded history that a comet has been observed hitting a planet. The first, and only known observation, was the impact of Comet Shoemaker-Levy 9 on Jupiter in 1994.

Based on Leonid Elenin's recent observations, Comet Siding Spring will pass 0.000276 AU (41,300 km, 25,700 miles) from the surface of Mars on October 19, 2014.
For comparison, the average distance between the Earth and Moon is .00257 AU (384,400 km, 238,900 miles).

08JAN2014 Darwin burks falls ontarion canada 2100 est 4 6 seconds north north/west travel facing north starting starting appox north appeared orange around out possible blue middle like a shooting star only 3 times bigger than any i have seen not that i seen looked like a fire ball with a tail in the sky, never witnesses anything like it , not a sky watcher bjut live in the country so happen to see things sometimes and thought it was worth reporting

07JAN2014 Deepali Dubai, United Arab Emirates 18:15:00 around 5-6 seconds N-S, I was driving towards West and saw this fireball travelling from my right to left it was light green color, broke 2 times into several pieces almost same as moon I was it breaking twice Couldn't take a photo since i was driving

07JAN2014 Jane Dargue Dubai UAE 18:15:00 8 seconds but did not see it's journey onwards Brief sighting as it passed between buildings traveling south White with yellow tail Very bright, like a star Nothing seen during my sighting Like nothing I had even seen before. Watched meteor storms but this was huge in comparison

08JAN2014 KAREN TUCKER mill park, melbourne australia 0:20:00 4seconds traveled east looked like it was going straight down white ball brighter than the moon but not as bright as the sun no iot looked like it was very close but could have been very far didnt hear any bang

08JAN2014 alice trafalgar, Australia 0:15:00 4 sec i was facing south. it went from NNE to SSW electric blue. came over head from behind, travelling straight across.disappeared in far distance. no sound. very long, very wide, bright as moon. parts were falling off like fireworks. was so big it appeard as close as small plane. best i ever seen.
