Police, however, dismissed these initial eyewitness accounts as rumours. They put out the guesswork that the explosion was caused by gelatine sticks buried and abandoned amid the rocks at the time of construction of the college.

They said that the college's gardeners, Sasikumar(42) and Murali (26), were burning garbage to clean up the garden and inadvertently set off the unused gelatine sticks.

Sources said that Kamaraj and another driver Sultan (57) were drinking water from a water tank in the garden when they were hit by splinters from the meteorite.

Kamaraj fell with bleeding injuries and Sultan sustained minor injuries. Kamaraj was rushed to the government hospital in Vaniyambadi but died on the way.

There are currently 3,4 9 known NEO Asteroids discovered that will pass within approximately 10LD or less (LD stands for "Lunar Distance"), in the month of February 2016. I expect that 10 or more 10LD NEOs will be discovered before month end.

Expect some spectacular bolides, fireballs, and meteors this month and especially large ones 3-5 days before and following the passing of 4 small mountain-sized NEO asteroids, diameters ranging from 500m- 2.8.km, that will safely pass this month.

03FEB2016 Mary Drayton Valley, Alberta, Canada 8:02 AM, MST About 5 seconds Traveling south to north. I was facing west. Green to yellow,then white. Then a bit of a poof. Like a flare. Daylight. Very vibrant. A bit if fragmentation in the poof. Over too soon. Made my day. I'm glad other people saw it too.

Today I witnessed a large fireball/bright white ball shoot extremely fast as I was driving north of Calgary AB Canada. It was approximately 08:00-08:07 hrs MST. It lasted approximately 3-5 secs and was in the NW sky shooting towards the north in a downwards direction. I was travelling north in my vehicle it appeared on my left (western sky) about my far upper left eye vision and shot northerly in a down wards fashion to the horizon in front of me lasting approx 3-5 secs - Kevin Lanigan
