NASA fireballs page has been updated with a bolide meteor with 1.2kt of Calculated Total Impact Energy. The bolide's position was given as 15.8N,11.9W.
The bolide was detected on Monday 27 June at 10:02UTC, possessed a velocity(x) of -29.1 km/s or 18.2 miles/sec (65,475 mph) and was reported at an altitude of 33km (20 miles).
Background Situation
New asteroid discoveries are currently in somewhat of a lull, with only 10 new discoveries in the <0.5AU range within the last 2 weeks (Period "M"). The numbers of new <0.5AU discoveries have been in decline since period "G" (Apr1-Apr15), with a similar trend for <5LD asteroids since period "E" (Mar1-Mar15).
2016 MA was the only <5LD asteroid discovered during period "M" and made its close-approach on June 19 at a distance of 2.6LD. New period "N" begins tomorrow (July 1).
So far, in 2016, there have been 29,849 new <0.5AU discoveries and 211 <10LD discoveries.

Huge Fireball with sonic and fragmentation reports NE US May 17th 2016 00:50 EDT (04:50 UTC) Multiple videos. $20,000 reward for a piece of the meteorite weighing at least 2.2 pounds.
MeteorRats Scramble! Rocks likely on the ground!
“I’m not going to say absolutely it didn’t produce meteorites on the ground, but I have not seen a Doppler signature that would suggest that,” Cooke said Friday night from the Marshall Space Flight Center near Huntsville, Alabama.
This animation shows the orbit of the fireball that occurred over New Hampshire/Maine around 12:50 AM EDT on May 17 (night of May 16). Once the meteoroid gets very close to Earth, the view shifts to the fireball's perspective, depicting what a camera attached to the meteor would show as it plunges towards Earth.

2 x Major USA fireball events: Sunday 06-March-2016
reported by meteordetective
INITIAL POSTING: Mon-07-Mar-2016: 07:20GMT
Update 6) Tue 08-Mar-2015, 19:35Z
A video of what might be a third event at 21:45 Pacific has been posted to Youtube on XenonRocket's Channel. I'm unable (no e-mail address available) to contact the YouTuber directly, but here's the embedded video. According to the directions & location provided, the meteor seems to be travelling NE->SW.
---
Update 5) Tue-08-Mar-2015, 05:00Z
Overnight, I had a witness from the Dallas event e-mail me a full set of answers to the Sightings Questionnaire, which was invaluable in assessing the Texas sighting of 20:45 Central Time on Sunday 6-March-2016.
It would appear to have been a large bolide (-4 mag.) travelling South-North on a moderate descending trajectory. The witness described the bolide as "Light orange in front with blue long tail. Very blue almost totally round in front then narrowing tail. Not like a far away shooting star." Note the use of the word "round". With regard to size, the witness states that it was: "Rounded front part was about size of thumb" (at arm's length), so the bolide was clearly large in size.
I'm still struggling to find any photos or videos of the event, so if you should find any, please let me know?
Thank you.
---
Update 4) Mon-07-Mar-2015, 19Z43.
Second confirmation that the 8:15 pm is a distinct and separate (and I believe to be space-trash at this point) event - compared to the slightly later 20:26 event (which looks like a proper fireball). Second witness suggests that the space-trash landed east of route 101 - after coming-in at a steep angle.
No media coverage??
---
Update 3) Mon-07-Mar-2016, 18Z53.
Well, it seems that at least one of the California events was something man-made re-entering our atmosphere. I've also had a report by e-mail of a potentially earlier event - around 8:10pm Pacific Time. Here's the first video I've seen of what I strongly suspect is NOT a meteor/meteorite (at least for one of the California sightings).
It looks like 2 events, 2 hours apart. Initial reports are that the California fireball' was very large, although the 15-20 seconds sighting-length of the CA event suggests space-trash? More data needed, please!
a) Texas, 20:45 Central Time / 02:45GMT
b) California, 20:25 Pacific Time / 04:25 GMT
I've checked by telephone with Vandenburg AF Base and they were not aware of any launches etc.
AMS' pending queue does not reflect the traffic that LunarMeteoriteHunters has been receiving, but AMS has both events in pending status.
END UPDATE
---
Website traffic & a couple of e-mails suggest that there's been a major event over California USA on Sunday evening at +/- 8:30PM local time, with a second report from Dallas, TX for a similar time (don't know whether the events are related/same at this point).
If you witnessed this event and/or have images / video which you are happy to be posted (with credit) here on Lunar Meteorite Hunters website/blog, then please e-mail meteordetective@gmail.com with the following information, if possible.
1) Time and location of sighting
2) Angle from observer to the object in the sky - i.e. 90 deg. = overhead to 0 deg. = ground-level.
3) Estimated elevation/height of the object(s)
4) Apparent direction of travel: decent angle (e.g. 45 deg. down) + azimuth (N to S etc)
5) Estimated size of the object(s) - using your thumb/thumbnail at arm's length as a comparison.
6) Velocity: How many seconds to cross what portion (e.g. 1/2) of the sky
Thank you for your contributions and information. My intention is to post more information, along with the best images & videos - once I have more detail.

Major bolide over North Scotland, 29-Feb-2016!
reported by meteordetective
** Update: 01-Mar-2016, 23:24Z.
Well, it seems that the excitement and news coverage of this event were equally high. All data, reports and first-hand sightings which I've seen in the 24 hours since the meteor buzzed the Scottish highlands - point towards a near-miss (for a surface impact).
According to a report which was included in the Independent's coverage, people could smell burning afterwards: "Here in Carrbridge we saw it very clearly as a bright blue light for three or four seconds at 6.45pm followed by a distinct burning smell in the air for a few minutes after." (Carrbridge is 33km / 20mi SE of Inverness). If it's true that you could smell burning and that burning was a direct result of the meteor and nothing else, it seems to me that Scotland just had a close-call.
"Looking south from our living room I noticed the sky suddenly lighting up extremely bright for a few seconds. The light was flickering and in a blue / green color. After about 3-5 minutes I could hear two explosions. It sounded like a very low frequency rumble coming from a great distance. (Estimated distance for 3-5 minutes would be between 60 - 100 Km.)" Unfortunately, he didn't mention where he lives.
"..this one would have been about 10cm (4in) across." and "...it probably burnt up at an altitude of 20 miles (32km) without any pieces reaching Earth."
I'm not so sure that I agree with his analysis. Something which burns-up at 20 miles in the sky is unlikely to leave a burning smell on the ground just minutes after the event. What I saw looked significantly larger than 10cm across, too.
Kudos and thanks to Ian Sample (Science Editor of The Guardian) for being on-the-ball and for being helpful, and likewise to the senders of the report I received from Seaham Harbour, County Durham.
For those of you whom are already familiar with Genesis, here's a little something on the sky-watching theme to enjoy. For those of you unfamiliar with Genesis, this was "prog(ressive) rock" at its finest.
Keep your eyes on the skies.
** Update: 01-Mar-2016, 07:54Z.
Many people have reported a major bolide sighting over Northern Scotland during the evening of Mon 29-Feb-2016. I'm still collating/determining all the information, but it looks to have tracked ESE->WNW at around 18:45Z. The bolide turned night in to day for a few seconds.
This appears to be an unknown/undetected meteor/meteorite. Of the latest 3 discoveries, the closest (by time/date proximity) is 2016 DL1 with a close-approach of 4.68LD at 01-March at 18:22Z, but I don't think the Scottish bolide and 2016 DL1 are related, at the moment.
A second, HD, video which shows the meteor itself has been published to Youtube by the owner of the dashcam and has allowed a track of East-to-West (at an approximate latitude of 57.2º) west of Aberdeen to be established (and coordinated with the Glenlivet sighting). (Click thumbnail to enlarge screenshot, below).
The meteor appears to have produced one or more sonic booms and disintegrated during descent, so there *may* be meteorites on the ground on a track of, roughly, Aberdeen-Aviemore-Fort Augustus...but likely further west than this, too.

The earliest reports came from late November 1948, but were at first dismissed as military green flares. Then on the night of December 5, two separate plane crews in New Mexico, one military and one civilian, asserted that they had each seen strange green lights, though about 20 minutes apart. The military pilots were near Las Vegas, New Mexico, and described the light as intense, and if a flare, it was the strangest one they had ever seen. The civilian pilot was near Albuquerque and described the light as pale green. It appeared to come straight at them on a collision course, forcing the pilot to swerve the plane.
In addition, on the same night, a dozen green fireballs were seen traveling generally north to south between 7:30 p.m. and 11:30 p.m. by security guards at military installations in the vicinity of Albuquerque and Las Vegas, New Mexico. The sightings near Albuquerque were at Sandia base, a highly sensitive installation where atomic bombs were assembled near Kirtland Air Force Base. The next night, a similar green light was again spotted for a few seconds over Sandia base.
AFOSI consulted Dr. Lincoln LaPaz, an astronomer from the University of New Mexico and a world renowned meteor expert who had previously worked on top-secret military projects. LaPaz himself saw a "green fireball" on December 12, which was also seen at Los Alamos Scientific Laboratory, enabling LaPaz to determine the trajectory using triangulation. From this LaPaz discovered that the center of the trajectory was straight over Los Alamos.
Project Twinkle
Finally, on December 20 after nearly a year of foot-dragging, the instrument observation program was approved and Project Twinkle was born. The first instrument post (consisting of two officers) was established at Holloman Air Force Base in February 1950. Only one other instrument post was ever set up. LaPaz criticized Project Twinkle as inadequate, arguing the green fireballs were worthy of "intensive, systematic investigation". Twinkle did manage to record a few events, but the data collected was said to be incomplete in the final Twinkle report. Besides, it was stated, no funding had been provided for follow-up data analysis. In addition, the fireball activity near the observation posts seemed to virtually disappear, as noted in a report from September: "It may be considered significant that fireballs have ceased abruptly as soon as a systematic watch was set up."
Over the objections of LaPaz and others, the final report on Project Twinkle concluded the green lights were probably a natural event, maybe sunspot activity or an unusual concentration of meteors. The report stated, "There has been no indication that even the somewhat strange observations often called 'Green Fireballs' are anything but natural phenomena." Twinkle was discontinued in December 1951.
Despite efforts of the final Twinkle report to downplay the fireballs and other studied UFO phenomena as natural, a follow-up report in February 1952 from the USAF Directorate of Intelligence disagreed:
The Scientific Advisory Board Secretariat has suggested that this project not be declassified for a variety of reasons, chief among which is that no scientific explanation for any of the fireballs and other phenomena was revealed by the report and that some reputable scientists still believe that the observed phenomena are man-made.
It was also stated that some of the scientists continued to believe they were Russian spy devices. Besides LaPaz, this included Dr. Anthony Mirarchi, the first director of Project Twinkle.
The following month, another letter from the Directorate of Intelligence to the Research Division of the Directorate of Research and Development again stated that the report should not be publicly released, since no real solution had been provided:
It is believed that a release of the information to the public in its present condition would cause undue speculation and give rise to unwarranted fears among the populace such as occurred in previous releases on unidentified flying objects. This results from releases when there has been no real solution.

Could see disintegration as pieces fell off.Brighter than the moon. Many fragments. It looked like it broke up and stopped glowing, maybe pieces fell to the east of me (but at that height could be many miles).
24DEC2011Alex DEuskirchen, Germany17:29 MEWT25 sec (i guess i saw the last 1/3 of its way, so it must have been about 1,5 min in total)from S to W in 50-100 km distance east from Euskirchenwhen i noticed it i thought i saw a glowing can with a tail of fire. when i opened the window (coz reflexion) the object was completely covered in flames and a few pieces fell off. Color was that of a normal fire, yellow/orange. I think i saw something glowing white before i opened the window, could be my imagination tho.same as a burning house (or two)Yes, there were about 5-10 parts falling offa once in a lifetime experience. i like to watch the sky, so i saw something similiar, but way smaler once. (duration 10 sec, fireball falling then burning up in atmosphere, same speed, same colour). this object was too slow for a meteor and way toooo fast for a plane, i guess it was about the speed of a satelite, maby a bit slower, but it was bigger than a satelite. i guess it was the size of a wagon (train). the vector and altitude were unique. it seemed like a landing plane, so the kinetic energy must have been enormous, wich means that it was a very massive object, not a rock or ice, but steel. I guess it is either a part of a space station or a massive piece of space junk. in any case, it was stunning. a nice little xmas present from the heavens ;)

I'm still wondering why I could see this because at the time the sky was cloudy - was it beneath the clouds? ... or was it so bright that it shone through the clouds?

24DEC2011JenniferEuerbach, Germany (Bavaria)17:30 CET30-45 secondsright to leftwhite/yellowishvery bright, like a fireballAt first, no fragment. Just a big ball of fire. Then, after it made an arc over my head, it fell to the left and broke into a few pieces.Started like a big fireball coming from the right. I thought it was some kind of shuttle taking off, which made no sense. Then, as it came closer, the big fireball began to arc right over my head and I saw it had a long white tail. As it continued it's journey, it broke off into pieces and almost seemed to glitter as the white tail followed behind. And then, after it had passed over me, it began to fall to the left and eventually burned out or something. It was the most beautiful thing I ever saw. It was like those fake xmas ornaments with a star and a tail trailing behind it. Execept it was real. Just a beautiful fireball of white with a white tail arching across the clear black sky.
