No photos available. Sketch possible.

09SEP2014 Ralf Kosma Greybull, WY and Hyattville, Wyo /// Between 22.3 approximately 10 sec. We were driving in southern direction. Meteorite came from the right (W) directly in front of the car. Almost horizontally. Large and long tail! Color reddish. No sound (but we were in a car, so maybe we just didn't hear it. Not were bright. Dark red at the tip. Cloudy tail in red and grey, moved slowly (from our point of view) No fragmentation observed. Comment: To us it appeared rather breathtaking. Never seen anything like this before!

08SEP2014 Darwin Gonzalez woodbridge ontario canada 20:01:00 2 secs north to south white brighter than the moon no saw it while driving on the highway, was flying very fast and only saw it for 2 secs.

08SEP2014 Amy Harry Shippensburg, PA 8:00 p.m. eastern time approximately 4 seconds I was travelling north, saw it in northwest sky, made a vertical decent (north to south) white/yellow streak, large fireball with orange in the ball. No sound very bright, bright as sun none seen Only comment is that because it happened around dusk, in the midst of the harvest moon, I was surprised it was so visible. My daughter was with me and saw it also.

07SEP2014 Henrietta Ghattas Labarthe Riviere, Haute Garonne, France 06.45 - roughly (I didn't look at the time right away) / Time Zone France , am Can't have been more than three or four seconds. Certainly felt very, very brief. I was facing south. It started high and shot down at a sharp angle, a little to the right, so travelling roughly south-south-west I'd guess. No sound. Colour: white to bright orange. Very bright - I was sitting beneath a window in an unlit room and the sudden brightness made me look up. Definitely brighter than the moon; more like a small, fast-moving, sun-bright line with a slight bulge at the leading point. Not that I noticed. The sky was very overcast at the time, and it was just light enough to make out the clouds. The meteor (if that's what it was, i've never seen one before) left a distinct vapour trail behind it.

This week provides another reminder of the reality of that threat, not that Earth’s history doesn’t already provide plenty of warnings.

The record of history, as written in the many impact craters on Earth and the moon, demonstrate that it is just a matter of time before astronomers discover a near Earth object (NEO) headed toward a collision with Earth.

The asteroid 2014 rc will pass below the Earth and the geosynchronous ring of communications and weather satellites orbiting 35,890 km (22,300 miles) above our planet's surface.

Asteroid 2014 RC was initially discovered on the night of 31 August by the Catalina Sky Survey near Tucson AZ, and independently detected the next night by the Pan-STARRS 1 telescope, located on the summit of Haleakala on Maui, Hawaii. Both reported their observations to the Minor Planet Center in Cambridge, MA. Additional follow-up observations by the Catalina Sky Survey and the University of Hawaii 88-inch on Mauna Kea confirmed the orbit of 2014 RC. From its brightness, astronomers estimate that the asteroid is about 20 meters (60 feet) in size.

While 2014 RC will not impact the Earth, its orbit will bring it back to the Earth's neighborhood in the future. Its future motion will be closely monitored but no future threatening Earth encounters have been identified. http://neo.jpl.nasa.gov/news/news184....
