Just saw a large beautiful meteor, duration was about 1.5 - 2.5 seconds. Time was 21:10 hrs est. Very fast, travelling south to north ( approx). Did not see any framentation, just a white bolide. I live in North Bay ontario, Canada. Cheers. Craig Moody

Initial Sighting Reports-

14MAR2013 Dave Thamesville, Ontario, Canada 06:21 EST 2-3 seconds WNW-NW(left to right, ending at NW orientaion)  falling at angle of 20 deg or so from horizon one bright object, then broke into small fragments, appeared to fade completely before hitting horizon/ground same as moon one bright object,(1-1.5 sec.) then broke into small fragments(1-1.5 sec.), appeared to fade completely before hitting horizon/ground no photo! Had camera, but no time to get the picture.

14MAR2013 Steve Pasternak Saline, Michigan 0620 EST 3-4 seconds I'm facing N, meteor travel was W to E Bright white, no sound much brighter than Venus, less than full moon yes, short tail of burning fragments trajectory more horizontal. Brightness caught my peripheral vision from due West then it travelled to approx. due North, noticed lots of fragmentation just before it disappeared. Awesome!

14MAR2013 George K Ann Arbor, MI and Between Northville 6:20 EST 3 Driving NorthEast on M-14, I saw it out my left window traveling East and toward the ground White flash out of the left corner of my eye while driving.  When I looked I saw a fading trail of white light.  I only saw the trail for part of a second before it was gone. Looked like lightning out of the corner of my eye while driving. Didn't see fragmentation.  I saw the initial flash out of the corner of my eye Bright flash got my attention, then I looked out my window and saw the fading trail.  Glad to see others reported it, so I'm not hallucinating on my morning commute!

13MAR2013 Jeff Sargent San Pedro, Ca 20:05PM PST 3 sec Right to Left as looking toward Catalina Island red then green going toward surface of ocean same as moon no none

13MAR2013 Kim Mira Loma, CA USA 20:05 ish 10-15 sec Facing S-SE, from N-S Gold, Red, Yellow, White. Did not notice any sound, traffic Between sun, moon and Venus Some but didn't notice a lot Kind of slow, kind of large, tail was maybe 2-3 times the length of the ball tapered


13MAR2013 tea pasadena, California 20:00 about 8 seconds south west to north east / right to left gold blue green yellow brighter than other objects around till it died off not sure fireball shooting across the sky without tail then with tail and elongated until it flickered out

13MAR2013 Bill Riverside, CA 20:05:00 5-8 seconds R to L facing South Large ball with tail As bright as the moon Just a large trail of flame behind it It was amazing how long it took to go across the sky and fade out

13MAR2013 Emerson Alameda, CA 2005 PST 10-20seconds...was long Facing NW, from right to left bright yellowish Moon not sure took a panorama photo, happy to email it in, neighbor shot a video I can request from her if you like

We had rain 13/14 MAR 2013. On the early morning of 14th I went outside at 5'00 am and noticed an unusually large amount of  black/brown magnetic dust in the rain pools on concrete and have collected it. I don{t know if it is volcanic related, industrial, or run-of the-mill soil; but strange that this was accumulated after over 12 hours of heavy rain and within a 1-2 hour period just minutes ago. An area of 10cmX10cm yielded approximately 5gr of the dust.

Samples will be studied soon. It would be very interesting if this is not terrestrial.

Update- Late 14MAR2013

Sakurajima Volcano, Kyushu, Japan to Tokyo is approximately 900kms.

This MAY be the answer for the Tokyo magnetic dust containing mica?  Sakurajima volcano is approximately 900kms from Tokyo.

Sakurajima volcano (Kyushu, Japan) activity update
The volcano remains in a state of heightened activity, with many and relatively powerful vulcanian explosions. Yesterday alone, it produced at least SIX (6) explosions with ash plumes rising to 7-10,000 ft (2.1-3 km) altitude.

Sakurajima volcano (Kyushu, Japan): ash plume to 15,000 ft (4.5 km)
An unusually high ash plume rising to 15,000 ft (4.5 km) was reported this morning. This suggests a significantly larger than average vulcanian explosion took place.

Initial Meteor Sighting Reports-

12MAR2013 Kyo Eastlake, California, USA 21:20 Pacific Time 4 sec Right to left, East Blue tail then color disappeared moon no quite big, easy to see

12MAR2013 Jerome Jarvis Oceanside CA, USA ~2110 PDT What I saw lasted about 4-5 seconds Facing East; traved North Extremely bright white changing to intense bright green just prior to explosion.  No sound heard. far brighter than Venus none visible until explsion..very brief I was facing due east

12MAR2013 Khaylee San Diego, CA, North America 9:15 PM Pacific Time Zone 15-20 seconds North to NW facing SE Bright Green Brightness of the moon Solid sphere shapped, slight trail Only one occured, it was following nothing and followed by nothing.
