Comet Lovejoy (2011 W3) From Seen from Space by ISS 21DEC2011
SPACE STATION COMMANDER CAPTURES UNPRECEDENTED VIEW OF COMET
HOUSTON --
International Space Station Commander Dan Burbank captured spectacular imagery of Comet Lovejoy, viewed from about 240 miles above the Earth's horizon on Wednesday, Dec. 21.
Today Burbank described seeing the comet as "the most amazing thing I have ever seen in space," in an interview with WDIV-TV in Detroit. Burbank took hundreds of still images of the comet. The images also were processed into a time-lapse video that will air on NASA TV at 4 p.m. CST. The video, including Burbanks' comments, and a selection of the individual images are available online at:

I am a regular meteor shower observer but this was beyond any experience. I would never have seen it but forgot something in my vehicle and had turned around just at the right time.

Driving south on rt 218 King George, VA.. I saw a bright white flash that turned into a green streak then broke apart, lasting 1 to 2 seconds in the southern sky. It was heading straight down. This happened at about 3:27 am on 12/22/11. I think this was a meteor but not for sure. Please let me know what you think about it. -John Gedney Thank you John!
