a fireball the size of a grapefruit , melon flew past our car approximately 300 meters away and an approx hight of 10 meters it was very fast and very very bright. Turns out this fireball was actually over the northern Netherlands.
With an end-height of 34 km it is a borderline case for a dropper.

Hello Im from Beirut Lebanon in the middle East, I was beside my house in a mountain area called ajaltoun, keserwane its like 15 20 minutes from down town and we saw a huge orange light moving faster than a plane. It looked like a fire ball moving fast. It was heading east, we watched it until suddenly the fire died but could still see like a huge rock moving with some flames. It was the first time we se something like this I will send you the picture as soon as my husband comes home because its on his mobile.

A newly discovered NEO (Near Earth Object) asteroid has just been posted by NASA, NEO asteroid 2011 UB (LD 5.0), diameter 8.2m-18m.  It is to pass on 17OCT2011 along with NEO asteroid 2009 TM8 (LD 0.9), diameter 5.1m-11m.
1 LD (Lunar Distance) = ~384,000 kilometers.

Stepped out of my house in Vancouver, Washington, USA and saw a meteor shooting across the sky. It was streaking, flaring up as it broke apart and burned up. it was the brightess meteor I have ever seen. This occured at approx 10:40pm. My house faces west, the meteor was travelling from WSW towards NNW. The duration l was approx 3-4 seconds. It was a redish streak that flared white as it burned up. The 0.8 Sporadic moves slowly and the -2.4 bright one from the left side just missed it :)

Fireball was seen heading down at a steep angle for 2 to 3 seconds. No tail was seen an color went from white to powder blue. It was the largest meteor, fireball or spacejunk I ever saw. Close to the size of a dime if held out arms length. Close to ground before disappearing. I was driving and pointed out to friend. He said he hasn't seen anything like it. The size and the change of color was pretty amazing to us. Were in our 60's and were on our way home from work. -Aaron

10/14/11 at approximately 10:30pm, I was travelling East on Highway 50 in Placerville, CA (Northern CA). I saw a large green fireball-type object "fall" at an angle across the sky. So amazing! It was the biggest space object I've ever seen. Just slightly smaller and less bright than the almost-full moon nearby, it was visible for about 2 seconds, then disappeared behind the line of trees. Very green in color. It looked so big! I've seen shooting stars and meteor showers. This was nothing in comparison. Just amazing. -Becky K. Thank you Becky!


Madera, CA Meteor
I was driving north on Hwy 99 on my way home from work and noticed out of the corner of my eye a bright green flash coming down at about a 45 degree angle. It split and each piece stayed in line with each other looking like there was a break in the tail. The sky was very clear and the object very bright. Last night at about 10:15 pm, I saw what looked like a meteor that was shooting that then appeared to burst open or burn up. I was dirving west-bound on highway 80 leaving old Roseville. I saw a huge green fireball at 10:28 heading at around 338 degrees nw from my location in Henderson NV.... At about 35 degrees off the horizon. It lasted almost 4 seconds and flashed like a strobe light behind clouds the final second. No noise... no smoke trail.... But It was HUGE!!!

Green Fireball over Sierra Mountains on Friday 14 October 2011 @ approx 10:30pm - California Hwy 14

A buddy and I were driving home to Ridgecrest, CA on Hwy 14 on 14 Oct 11 at approx. 10:30 pm when we saw a fantastic green fireball behind the clouds coming down to Earth. It was falling in a South West direction over the Sierra Nevada Mountain range near the 178W highway toward Lake Isabella. I saw a green fireball back in '04 near Bishop, CA while driving on Hwy 14 as well. I made certain that my buddy saw it too while we were driving on Friday 14 Oct 11. He confirmed that he saw it. Fantastic. The fireball was the size of a full size truck. We knew it was not a firework since it was behind the clouds.-JR  Thank you JR!

Falling fireball, highway 50 east, October 14

I didn't make a note of the exact time or location, but 10:30 sounds right for where we were. We were heading to Tahoe on Highway 50 in the Sierras. I was driving and my husband was snoozing. I saw a huge blue fireball falling from right to left and gasped loudly. My gasp caused my husband to open his eyes, and he saw it for a second or two before it disappeared close to the top of the trees. I am dying to know what it was! Friday, October 14th at about 10:30 pm I was camping with my wife at upper Enterprise Reservoir in Utah. The sky lit up and there was a huge fireball descending at a sharp angle. I was driving north on hwy160 from Las vegas heading to Pahrump at around 10:30 when I saw it.  It lasted about 4 or so seconds. in comparison to a shooting star the "head" was about the size if a softball, as opposed to shooting star "head" about the size of a marble, if you will (make sense?). It just fell like a meteor mostly straight up to down and fell behind the mountain or something. It was a really flourescent green fireball looking thing and its trail was like greenish trail with hints of white and blue but it was mostly green and the trail was wide like the fireball it was really neat!!
