Hello,I'm a meteorite collector from Brazil and I'd like to report a fireball that I saw today (22/01/11) at 5:52 a.m. (local time)from São Paulo city.I was preparing a camera to take some pictures from the moon when I saw in the west horizon a green (!) fireball. I think that the magnitude reached -6 or -7, and when I realised it, I think that I saw it during at least 2 seconds. Due to the morning light, I couldn't see the constelations it crossed, but I think it started 25º over de west horizon, crossed around 15º almost perpendicular the horizon and faded between Sirius and Procyon.  I hope that, if it produced a meteorite, it haven't fallen in the sea.  coorection: I see it in the west (not east)horizon, so there isn't any possibility that some possible meteorite had fallen in the sea.

Pensacola Green Fireball 21JAN2011 ~7:00 pm EST
Dear Sir,
I know in the last few days you have seen several large green fireballs, but none have been reported for Florida, near Pensacola.  I wanted to let you know that today, 21JAN2011, shortly before 7:00 pm CST I saw a very large green fireball cross the sky.  I was driving home when I spotted the fireball.  I am sorry I'm not able to give you the precise time, but I hope that helps with some of your tracking.  Have a lovely evening.

It was quite large and had a long smokey like tail behind it - it was falling north to south towards the Mississippi Sound. It was quite amazing. My husband thought it was a missile. I'm pretty confident it was a meteor or fireball of some sort.

Two Major Fireballs Over North America on January 19

by Robert Lunsford, AMS
The American Meteor Society has received 39 reports of seven separate fireball events over North America on January 19th. Two of these were widely seen events. Both of these events occurred near 21:00 EST. The first occurred over the northern Midwest and southern Canada. There is some wide scattered timing of this event and the possibility exists that this may be more than one fireball. The second occurred over the southeastern states and was seen from Florida north to North Carolina. There is good agreement for the timing plus it seems to been a bit brighter with a majority of those reporting that the peak brightness exceeded that of the full moon.
For more details please visit the AMS website at:
