Meteor observed 40 degrees above the eastern horizon traveling North to South in a line covering 40 degrees. Observer’s position 12 miles northwest of the city center. Duration 2.4 seconds. Bright fireball streaking slowly down, near vertical a few degrees east of the moon (looking from the north it was falling in the SW towards the Pacific Ocean). Color was white to light green. ~2-3 sec. duration Brightness =~Moon

FYI - saw huge meteor @ 9.10pm 17 June 2011 from Strathpine/Brisbane/Australia in Northern Sky heading east to west 45 degree angle, white streak behind quite wide and short, black head with red/yellow glow or edging in front, head shaped like a club - very distinct, lasted about 3 seconds, not white bright more yellow and black, white tail but not like magnesium, low to horizon.

Friday 17th June 2011, approximately 9pm. seen from Gracemere, near Rockhampton, Central Queensland. approx 75 degrees above the southern horizon travelling from west to east. seven seconds with two very bright periods 5x Venus. bluish white tail and blue 'explosions'. 3 seconds tail, 1st explosion, 2 seconds tail, 2nd explosion, 2 seconds tail then faded. -Anon.

On June 17th 2011, we were driving on the Bruce Highway in Brisbane between Strathpine and North Lakes at approximatelyt 9.05pm we saw a fire ball in the sky which was orange with a white tail and blackish head, at a 45 degree angle heading downwards before fading completely out, lasting roughly 5 seconds. It was very bright and apparent in the sky.

Saw exactly the same thing as Isaac Smith (1st post) over the skies of Lismore looking south. Mentioned it to my stepdad at the time but forgot about it until tonight.Unlike anything I have ever seen before. Pretty much looked like a massive fireball flying at pace into our lower atmosphere and didn't look that far away. No sound, have heard no further news of it until I googled it and found these posts, 45 degree angle for about 3-5 seconds. Absolutely amazing actually, but as I didn't die I just got on with my day and forgot for some reason. Way to close and too big to be a falling star or comet. This thing was either big or close and definately entered our lower atmosphere. I'm no scientist but that was my take on it. -lordwinterborne

I'm from Holland and i just saw a meteor around 3 am at night it had a green-ish flashy light with orange sparks coming off it, i came from a friend and i rode on my bike to my house when i saw it in the sky, i never saw this phenomena before but i'm convinced this was a meteor since it was so close and not like a shooting star at all! it literally came down from the sky upon earth I live in a place called Eindhoven so you know were it landed. -Anon.

I got a 5 second look (Peaches saw it for 3seconds) at a meteorite !!! This was about 4:20 am CDT in Montgomery,AL... JUNE 15,2011.The Meteorite appeared to come from a north western direction and went to the souteast. It was a bright greenish ball with a tail in tow!! We stood on a second floor entrance as it disappeared behind some trees. We did not hear anything or see the conclusion. It was most exciting to get a glimpse of such a phenonemon!!!! Thank You.

I was at the crossroad Crawfordville Highway and Bloxham Cuttoff. Flames were coming out of the back. I thought it was a plane crash. I called the airport and police and they had not had any reports. At around 5:20 AM EDT on 15 June I witnessed a large white / greenish fire ball streak across the sky at Fort Benning in Columbus GA. It was visible for several seconds and appeared to be traveling in a southern direction. Sparks and burning particles were clearly visible falling off of the Meteor. It was the brightest thing I have ever seen in a dark sky, far more bright then a full moon.-Brian Thank you Brian!

There is an old Alabama Power building in Montevallo, AL that my friends and i were exploring. We got on the roof and i sat and stared out towards the south west. i saw a green ball of light falling from the sky. it had a giant tail of green as well. this was the biggest meteorite i had ever seen. it lasted about 5 seconds and traveled from high in the south west sky towards low in the south east sky. it was about 4:20 in the morning. later on that day i met up with my boyfriend; he had seen it too, while he was on his way to work. -Jessica

I was on my way to work Weds. morning at 5:20 a.m. when a huge bright blue ball came flying past at an incredible speed. I live in southern Jefferson county Fla. in a small community named Fanlew, way out in the woods so to see something so spectacular was a little frightening at first but then became amazing. In the evening on wed,June 15 2011 a meteor streaked across the northern sky. It lasted under two seconds,however it was very brilliant and clearly visible to the naked eye here in New Bern, NC. pieces of the meteor broke off of the main fireball as it entered the atmosphere.
