Video and details-
I have this on exactly one camera, which makes sorting it out difficult.
Definitely a big bright one, possibly over the border into northern NM.
Local weather and just plain bad luck seems to have kept if off all the
other cameras that should have caught it.

Initial Meteor Sighting Reports-
10JAN2014 Atul Ojha SAN JOSE, CALIFORNIA, USA Around 6 PM 5 I was Facing South, Saw Meteor going from NW to SE, I was on Capitol Avenue Bright Yellow Can saw was around Venus, Pretty big, fast, roundish shaped, falling down and extinguished nearby to mountain peaks Probably around Alum Rock side Round fire head, Yellowish, Falling with good speed, extinguished just above some mountain peak nearby, fire broke into pieces

10JAN2014 Lia McCall Mountain View, CA, USA 17:50 (5:50 pm) PST 8 seconds W-E; R-L; I was facing East no Venus yes, large parts falling off for 1 second before burst beautiful to behold

10JAN2014 Mare Hanley Goleta, CA USA 1750/PST 10 sec N by NW white and pale yellow bright flare yes, 5% of mass dropped behind no

10JAN2014 Mark San Jose, California about 6PM
I was standing near Aborn and White Road near the foothills of East San Jose, California.
I saw an unusual meteor in that it was like a fat car on it's side pushing down into the atmosphere with lots of sparks, not unlike a fireworks type of effect. It was fat. Then, it stopped quickly and I believe it was going in a trajectory of Yosemite, because it was not going at all toward Alum Rock Park but maybe 100 or 200 miles over about 30 miles to the East of Mt. Hamilton.
Because of the unusual, fat sparkler like effect, I think it could have been some kind of space junk put there by man. But not sure.

NEO Asteroids Close Approach January 2014

NEO Asteroids Close Approach January 2014
There are now currently 10 11 known NEOs with a passing LD of less than 10LD.  2014AA is so close to the Earth that it will certainly not miss; fortuantely it is estimated to be 1.7-3.8 meters in diameter, so no damage is expected.  January historically is a very active month for bolide, fireball, and  meteor activity so stay alert and have your cameras ready!  -LunarMeteoriteHunter...Tokyo

Comets of 2014 - Storms Ahead?

Comets of 2014 - Storms Ahead?
Comet Ison, Comet Holmes, Comet 209P / LINEAR, Comet Faye, Comet Siding Spring
2014 Meteor Superstorms Are Expected Huge Comets Target Earth and Mars WTH Is Going On?Posted to YouTube by nemesis maturity 189 viewsThank you to Elias for this production!

Comet Holmes
(Perihelion Mar 27, 2014)
Over the course of 42 hours in October of 2007, Comet Holmes (17P/Holmes) became a half million times brighter on its way to becoming the largest object in the solar system - larger than the Sun, or Brad Pitt's ego, if only for a brief time. Holmes is one of the more prominent comets in 2014.

Comet 209P / LINEAR
(May 6, 2014)
http://arxiv.org/abs/1311.0235
Forget comet ISON, comet 209P/LINEAR brings real doom!!
comet Ison is nothing. The real thing is a comet after Ison in May 2014 (Comet 209P) which will bring some friends with it towards earth, in other words - doomsday

Comet Faye
(May 29, 2014)
Orbital Period of Comet Faye
The orbital period of Comet Faye is 7.55 years.
Comet Faye (4P/Faye) was discovered in 1844 by a French astronomer. It was the first periodic comet to be named after its discoverer and not the individual who determined its orbit. This comet will reach perihelion a couple days after Comet Holmes in 2014.

Comet Siding Spring
Perihelion Oct 25, 2014
Estimates for the diameter of the nucleus have varied from 1 to 50 km (0,62 to 31 mi). The resulting upper limit energy of impact could reach 20 billion megatons
For reference, the atomic bomb dropped on Nagasaki, Japan at the end of World War II was 0.023 megatons and the 1908 airburst over the Tunguska River in Siberia was 4.0 megatons
If the comet does hit Mars, the effect on our neighboring planet will be monumental and it would mark the second time in recorded history that a comet has been observed hitting a planet. The first, and only known observation, was the impact of Comet Shoemaker-Levy 9 on Jupiter in 1994.

Based on Leonid Elenin's recent observations, Comet Siding Spring will pass 0.000276 AU (41,300 km, 25,700 miles) from the surface of Mars on October 19, 2014.
For comparison, the average distance between the Earth and Moon is .00257 AU (384,400 km, 238,900 miles).
