Emergency Message for U.S. Citizens:Tsunami Warning in Northeastern Japan

The U.S. Embassy in Tokyo warns U.S. citizens in coastal areas of Northeastern Japan that the Japan Meteorological Agency has issued a Tsunami warning for Fukushima Prefecture, the Pacific Coast of Aomori Prefecture, Iwate Prefecture, Miyagi Prefecture, Ibaraki Prefecture and the Kujukuri and Sotobo Area of Chiba Prefecture. The Tsunami Warning follows a powerful earthquake that struck off the coast of Fukushima Prefecture just after 6:00 AM Japan Standard Time. The text of the current warning is available herehttp://www.jma.go.jp/en/tsunami/. The predicted size of the wave is between one and three meters, with the largest wave expected along the coast of Fukushima Prefecture.

Persons in coastal regions under the Tsunami Warning should evacuate immediately from coastal regions and riverside areas to a safer place such as high ground or an evacuation building. Tsunami waves are expected to hit repeatedly. Do not leave safe ground until the warning is lifted. All U.S. citizens living in or traveling to the area should monitor local weather reports, follow directions from local officials, and take other appropriate actions as needed.
  The Embassy is monitoring the situation and will provide further information as it becomes available.

This amazing fireball overflew the Mediterranean Sea on 18 Nov. 2016 at 22:31 UT (23:31 local time). The event was produced by a meteoroid that hit the atmosphere at about 72000 km/h. The bolide began at an altitude of about 80 km above the sea level and ended at a height of around 60 km above the sea. The fireball was recorded in the framework of the SMART Project from the astronomical observatories of Calar Alto (Almería, Spain) and La Sagra (Granada, Spain).

Very bright fireball over the South of Spain on 15 Nov. at 2:55 UT (3: 55 local time). It belongs to the Southern Taurids meteor shower. The event took place during the Super Moon and was produced by a fragment from Comet 2P/Encke that hit the atmosphere at about 110.000 km/h. The bolide began at a height of about 108 km over the province of Granada and ended at an altitude of 60 km over the south of the province of Jaen.
