Thika, Kenya Meteorite Recovered

Residents of Thika and Kangundo districts today experienced a rare natural occurence when they saw several bright objects fall from the sky. One of the objects landed in the ground near the Ol Donyo Sabuk Mountain in Thika, which is also known as Kilimambogo. Eyewitnesses described it as resembling a rock, suggesting that it is a meteorite or space rock. Locals say they heard a loud sound like a falling airplane and saw the burning object fall to the ground at about 10am today. Military officials arrived in the area and took away the object for analysis.

South Essex, UK sighting 21 August 2011

I am pleased to see that your website contains reports of the bright meteor seen last night falling over the south of England .

I was in South Essex , looking due west, waiting for the International Space Station to come over the horizon.

The time of the sighting of the meteor was about 2145 BST.

I saw a very bright white light just above the western horizon, moving in what appeared to be a South to North direction.

It was falling in a very shallow angle of approximately 25⁰.

The light was almost as bright as the ISS which went overhead at about magnitude -3.

This item fell without leaving a trail behind it.

I saw the object for about a second as it crossed the area of sky that I was looking at. But as my view was restricted both to the south and north, I suspect that it may have been visible to others for longer.

It cannot have been a late Perseid, as its radiant would have been more like the constellation Ophiuchus.

The ISS was initially quite dim in the west as it was viewed through the thickness of the atmosphere.

The relative brightness of the meteor suggests that it was much nearer, and at a lower altitude than the ISS.

Breedon on the Hill Meteor Fireball 21.45pm 21AUG2011

I saw the amazing meteor at 21.45pm on Sunday 21st August whilst waiting for the space station to pass over. Location- Breedon on the Hill near East Midlands Airport, England. Approx. 40 deg. above horizon, travelling much faster than a plane or helicopter from south towards north in a few seconds before disappearing behind Breedon Hill. Emitting bright yellow light. Also witnessed by my Mum in Derby whilst also waiting for space shuttle. It appeared larger than the space shuttle even when that passed overhead.

Could not understand what my husband and myself had seen and expected it to be on the local news, but no mention.

Upper Sandusky, Ohio Bright Green Meteor 22AUG2011

22 August 2011, 01:30 EDT

Driving east on US 30 about 20 miles west of Upper Sandusky , OH

Meteor fell in a pretty sharp descent (almost straight down) from east to west at a relatively slow speed. It had a very bright green fireball, which was the largest I have ever seen. That made it appear to be so close that I was sure I would see an impact. It lasted only a few seconds before it went out or disappeared on the horizon north of my vehicle.

About an hour later I saw another one from my house. It was a small, fast-moving, yellowish-white trail moving from east to west at about a 45-degree angle. It lasted about 3 seconds.

MBIQ (Meteor Bot Internet Queries) Indicates Green Meteor Over Florida 21AUG2011

I saw this meteor as it fell. From my location (Miami, FL) I was facing north north east and saw it. It was the most incredible thing I have ever seen in my life. A huge, green fireball fresh out of space landing what looked like not 5 to 10 miles from me. Apparently, it landed about 300 miles away.

Saw green meteor in Lakeland, Florida

I saw a green glowing like fireball in the sky yesterday around 9:30 ish pm, when I was driving around lakeland, florida. I never heard of such a thing and decided to look it up online tonight and saw there were others who reported it. I have no idea what direction it was going, I'm not that great with direction I will try to find where I was at yesterday and bring my husband with me to show him and maybe he can give me the exact direction it was headed. At 21h04 on Friday evening 19 August 2011, I saw a bright fireball (red and green) flying from east to west but falling towards west. I was facing north. Then I googled similar sightings today and saw Coenraad from Hartebeestpoort, North West that saw the same thing a few minutes later. Hartbebeestpoort is to our west. Please advise if I saw the same thing. It lokked like a fireball that was going to crash into ground, but just suddenly disappeared.

On Friday evening 19 August 2011 travelling by car on the N3 from Durban to JohannesburgN we sighted a meteor just before Heidelberg in the Gauteng province.
It was around 21.10 and was a sight to behold! It lasted for between 6 and 8 seconds, a ball of fire with a long tail, travelling from East to West!
Never before have we been so privileged to see such a sight and we feel truly blessed!
We weren't quite sure what exactly this was and decided to google meteor, comet and the date.

Last night we were sitting outside when the whole sky lit up and a bright blue fireball streaked across the sky in a roughly northward direction. It then turned bright pinkish white and disappeared in a flash of white light. It was so bright people inside the house thought we were shining the car’s lights into the house. It must have been observed across a wide area, but I cannot find any reference to a sighting on Google. there was an aircraft on its way to Johannesburg International Airport which crossed the sky pretty soon afterwards and the pilots must have seen it as well. Please let me know whether somebody else also saw it.

METEOR FALLING IN RUSTENBURG 19 AUGUST 2011
Hi on the night of 19 August 2011 at 21:12 we sighted a meteor falling in the Rustenburg,South Arica region.We were taking a drive from the Waterfall Mall to Rustenburg CBD when this happened.
It lasted about 2 - 5 seconds maybe abit longer. It was very bright and had a long tail.looking as if lightning was
behind it. It was very big.if i had from my distence had to put a coin size on it it was about a 5 sents in size,arm length from my face.
As i said, it had a long bright tail orange to bright white front,when it came down very fast. It changed colour the closer it came to earth to a bright red to bright orange.this happened within 2 - 3 seconds then it exploded.we saw it explode into smaller pieces.
The explosion was very bright.and then it was gone.It was coming from a north east direction moving north.It seemed so close that it must have fallen somewhere between Rustenburg Prison service outside of Rustenburg and Northam. Last night we were sitting having a chat when my sister and my son suddenly shot up out of their chairs and shouted, “What the hell is that”. They spotted a big black ball with a huge fire trail tailing behind it. It was travelling extremely fast. It landed behind the mountain in front of our house. When it landed the area behind the mountain lit up almost as if there was lighting. We are wondering where it landed and what the impact area may look like. Was it picked up by South African meteorologists or the SA Weather Station. All we can say is wow. On friday around 2130 hours in the Bobirwa district, in a village called Bobonong in Botswana whilst chatting with a friend outside her house by my car in a ward called Rasetimela, we suddenly got covered by daylight for a period lasting 3 to 4 seconds. Up in the sky there was a green and red fireball travellin south with a long bright tail. About 10 seconds later there we heard a distant bang that sounded like something hitting hard on the ground. When i left to a near by hang out, the exact sighting was confirmed by two of my friends who happened to be observe the same thing. August 18th at approx 10:50pm
I live in North York(toronto). I was sitting outside on my front porch and saw a meteor, comet or fireball! It was a bright bluish colour and lasted about 4-5 seconds. I would discribe it as the size of a baseball. It went quickly across the sky from east to west as I was facing southward. So beautiful and amazing and feel so blessed to have witnessed it. Any thoughts on what this might have been? did anyone else notice it?
