Fireball was seen heading down at a steep angle for 2 to 3 seconds. No tail was seen an color went from white to powder blue. It was the largest meteor, fireball or spacejunk I ever saw. Close to the size of a dime if held out arms length. Close to ground before disappearing. I was driving and pointed out to friend. He said he hasn't seen anything like it. The size and the change of color was pretty amazing to us. Were in our 60's and were on our way home from work. -Aaron

10/14/11 at approximately 10:30pm, I was travelling East on Highway 50 in Placerville, CA (Northern CA). I saw a large green fireball-type object "fall" at an angle across the sky. So amazing! It was the biggest space object I've ever seen. Just slightly smaller and less bright than the almost-full moon nearby, it was visible for about 2 seconds, then disappeared behind the line of trees. Very green in color. It looked so big! I've seen shooting stars and meteor showers. This was nothing in comparison. Just amazing. -Becky K. Thank you Becky!


Madera, CA Meteor
I was driving north on Hwy 99 on my way home from work and noticed out of the corner of my eye a bright green flash coming down at about a 45 degree angle. It split and each piece stayed in line with each other looking like there was a break in the tail. The sky was very clear and the object very bright. There didn't seem to be an impact but the point at which the object stopped burning was very low. -William D.  Thank you William!

Last night at about 10:15 pm, I saw what looked like a meteor that was shooting that then appeared to burst open or burn up. I was dirving west-bound on highway 80 leaving old Roseville. I saw a huge green fireball at 10:28 heading at around 338 degrees nw from my location in Henderson NV.... At about 35 degrees off the horizon. It lasted almost 4 seconds and flashed like a strobe light behind clouds the final second. No noise... no smoke trail.... But It was HUGE!!!

Green Fireball over Sierra Mountains on Friday 14 October 2011 @ approx 10:30pm - California Hwy 14

A buddy and I were driving home to Ridgecrest, CA on Hwy 14 on 14 Oct 11 at approx. 10:30 pm when we saw a fantastic green fireball behind the clouds coming down to Earth. It was falling in a South West direction over the Sierra Nevada Mountain range near the 178W highway toward Lake Isabella. I saw a green fireball back in '04 near Bishop, CA while driving on Hwy 14 as well. I made certain that my buddy saw it too while we were driving on Friday 14 Oct 11. He confirmed that he saw it. Fantastic. The fireball was the size of a full size truck. We knew it was not a firework since it was behind the clouds.-JR  Thank you JR!

Falling fireball, highway 50 east, October 14

I didn't make a note of the exact time or location, but 10:30 sounds right for where we were. We were heading to Tahoe on Highway 50 in the Sierras. I was driving and my husband was snoozing. I saw a huge blue fireball falling from right to left and gasped loudly. My gasp caused my husband to open his eyes, and he saw it for a second or two before it disappeared close to the top of the trees. I am dying to know what it was! Now that I finally got around to googling it, I'm glad to see we didn't hallucinate it. Thanks! -Linda  Thank you Linda!

Friday, October 14th at about 10:30 pm I was camping with my wife at upper Enterprise Reservoir in Utah. The sky lit up and there was a huge fireball descending at a sharp angle. It was bright red-orange, with a little blue and gold. It lasted two or three long seconds, traveling westward, it was bright as fireworks in the early evening sky I guess you can say, and before it shot out of view, sparks, or pieces seemed to break from it, as though breaking apart. We live on the beach, on HWY 90 in Pass Christian MS. and at 7:20 P.M. (CST), we saw a flaming object falling towards the west. It was blue/green and also some red. It certainly seemed more metallic to me as the flame behind was "organized" in that it was a rather "structured burn" instead of other meteors I have seen. Very bright and extremely easy to see. It was visible for at least 3 seconds, and it appeared that it may have "impacted". -Richard Stange

Missouri City, Texas Bolide 13 seconds 7:19 pm 25SEP2011

I was in Missouri City, Texas which is Southwest Houston. It was 7:19pm on Sept. 25, 2011.
The meteor started as a point just less than 15 degrees off the horizon when I was looking East South East. There were no clouds present, but a nice sunset...Venus Belt in the East that the bolide crossed through. I thought it was a bright plane at first, but quickly realized it was moving too fast and had a slight tail to it. It was in the sky for about 13 seconds total heading towards the horizon at roughly a 45 degree angle. It was brighter than Venus and about two times as large. The last few seconds it was in the sky it broke apart into smaller pieces...I'm guessing about 4 or 5. I didn't notice any particular color against the Venus Belt sky, except when it broke apart. The smaller trailing pieces turned red/orange Awesome show!!!!. -Christie B  Thank you Christie!

@ 19:20 I saw a reddish orange fireball moving roughly north east. Sun had not set yet, yet it was easily visible. I would say it travelled about 60 degrees above the SW horizon to within 20 degrees of the north east horizon where it disappeared. Brightest meteor I have ever seen.

At 7:21, While on break at work, I was sitting outside just kind of gazing in the sky when I saw a big bright blue green flaming meteor slowly descend from the atmosphere. As it slowly came downward it changed hues and all the sudden it burst into blazing orange flames then broke apart into like 4 or 5 smaller bits then faded out. It lasted several seconds. I am a flight instructor and we were landing on runway 09 (facing East) at Arcola, Tx airport (indentifier KAXH) at 7:21pm CDT, Sept. 25, 2011 when we saw a very bright light appear from the Southeast. It was low on the horizon and moving Northward. It was so bright we thought it was a flare, or maybe space junk that was burning up. Very bright, with a trail, then faded out. Not sure of the colors. Around 6:30 PM headed home from Metarie as we exited I-10 in LaPlace, Louisiana, for about 3-5 seconds we saw lights off in a South Southeast direction. The lights were a yellowish to white color, no spectacular firework colors. There were 3-4 lights in a horizontal position then suddenly the lights appeared to be in an almost vertical alignment. Then all the lights went out. We thought it was a plane crash with a nearby airport Northeast of where we saw the lights. But there were no such reports. My husband and I were on our way home from church around 7:20pm yesterday, and we took the river rd being on our motorcycles, as we passed the funeral home, a bright something caught our attention, it was very clear, very bright, like a huge and long lasting firework. It was a bright white ball about the size of a beach ball at first, with orange and red in the center and blue/greenish and some silver throughout it. It visibly shrank in size as it came down from the west side of the Mississippi river, until right before hitting the levee, when it just disintegrated into nothing. Amazing to see...disappointed that i was on nu motorcycle and couldnt take some pics! But we had a nice fairly long view, aad saw great detail! Mississippi/Alabama State line heading to New Orleans on Interstate 10

I was driving across the Mississippi/Alabama State line heading to New Orleans on Interstate 10 at 7:20/21pm Central Time when I saw a green glowing meteor falling across the sky. It lasted aprox 5-7 seconds... Enough time for me to think about getting my phone out for a picture before remembering my iphone was broken and my digital camera was in the backseat out of reach. Has anyone checked with the New Orleans/Mobile tv news stations regarding their sky cameras? West Plains, MO, sometime between 8:15-8:20pm.
Saw through a window facing south, the object moving from east to west.
It was a bright blue-green, almost like a flare. Much bigger than stars,
etc., and looked like a ball instead of the streak that a meteor usually
makes. I did not see a tail, but rather it seemed perfectly round.
Moved slower than a flare or meteor (shooting star) usually does.
Slow enough for me to notice, stand up and move closer to the window, before
it appeared to burn out. It looked like it just "turned off" but turning orange and smaller right

Kensington, California Bright Green Meteor ~8:02 pm 6SEP2011
Just about 20 minutes ago, at 8:02 pm Pacific Daylight Time, I saw what looked like a bright green meteor (I called it a "shooting star" at first). It lasted only a couple of seconds, and from where I was, it seemed to originate in the south-east portion of the sky, streaking in a diagonal downward path toward toward (I think) the east. I don't know when it first became visible because I was in my car and couldn't see the top of it, but it was definitely a bright clear green -- no doubt about the color. I had music playing in my car and couldn't tell whether there was any noise.
I was in Kensington, California when I saw it, and although I was no more than 1/2 mile from home, my exact home location is [redacted by LMH]. (I had a plaque with this information made for my husband last year.)
I hope this information proves useful to Trackers of the Green Meteor.

tonite at approximately 8PM i was out walking my dog and saw a very close shooting star fall and disappear very near the area where i live (antelope, ca in sacramento county). it was beautiful and so very vivid. I decided to look up shootings stars when i got home so i googled and your site came up amongst others. I know there are supposed to be called meteors or what have you, however, I still like it being called a shooting star... it was awesome to know that someone else on your site also saw the same thing... it looked yellowish/whitish and very bright... could have been greenish. -Anita P.  Thank you Anita!

I was talking to a friend yesterday and around 8:00pm, I saw a bright orangish fire like ball with a tail going across the sky. It was amazing as I had never seen anything like this before. I thought it was a shooting star. Hi, I live in Newcastle, California, about 20 miles above Sacramento in the foothills. Yesterday evening at 8:02 pm I saw a very large vivid meteor in the southeast direction.
It was greenish/blue with a large red tail. It was headed downward. I ran for a better look as it appeared to be crashing into the earth. I heard or saw nothing. What a sight! -Dolores M

Just after dark on September 6, 2011, I was sitting outdoors in Nevada City, California. A large fireball appeared in the sky falling straight down from the south east. I was in my backyard near Campbell, CA 95008 . Around 8pm I saw a burning green meteor or Space Debris. It had a long blue trail and the ball was bright with a green glow with some Bright blue gas vapor trailing. It originated in the South western portion of the sky towards Santa Cruz and descended towards the South Eastern sky. It was visible for about 3 seconds…..Mike

Old Station, CA

Last night (Sept 6, 2011), we saw a meteor outside of Old Station, CA, while on highway 89. It was just after 8 pm, probably about 8:05 pm. The meteor looked bluish green and had a very noticeable glow. It was moving very fast and we lost it in the tree line. It fell close to Mt. Lassen. A few hours later I saw that my sister in law posted on facebook that she saw a falling star that was very close in Roseville, Placer County, CA. Over 100 miles away, but at the same time that we saw the meteor in Shasta County, CA. -JStanley Thank you!

Sitting at the intersection of Golden Lantern and Sweet Meadow Ln, facing south southwest. Saw a brilliant bright white meteor with a greenish tint on it's edges streaking right to left in a slight downward angle. had a nice tail on it, Visible for 4 or 5 seconds. Awesome sighting!-Bruce W.

Sitting on my back patio, in Encinitas Ca, last night (9/6/11) around 8:30pm, I saw a meteorite enter our atmosphere in the south-east corner of the sky. It started off red with a firey tail and burned out to green. It lasted about 4 seconds or so. Really cool seeing that!

Direction of movement: (upper) North to (lower) South. Moved like a shooting start but it was obvious this was much closer (w/i the atmosphere)
Duration of Event: 5-10 seconds
Brightness: As bright as a very bright star

Saint Paul, Minnesota Meteor ~11:30 pm 3SEP2011
I was walking west on 4th street in downtown saint paul MN.
It was 11:30pm last night. Sept 3, 2011
The thing was huge and so close, unlike any shooting star I had ever seen.
It seemed to be just above the buildings, had a giant blue tail, was balloon shaped.
Im terrible at direction, when I looked up, it was shooting to the left. It was just 2-3 seconds.
It was just unreal, the color and size of it. The spot I saw it was where I was 5 mins earlier.
I was walking to a neighborhood bar, when I turned around,
walked back to my loft grabbed a hoodie. When I got back to the spot where I had turned around, that was when I looked up and saw it.
Had I not went back I would have been inside the bar already and would have never seen it.
So I feel pretty lucky to have witnessed such an event. ~Micah Thank you Micah!

My friend and I were at work out at 70 Ranch located at CR 388 and CR 53 Around 4 O`clock AM...9/2/2011. I saw a light that looked like a shooting star. It was bright out of the North and then it shot like a star to the East and then stopped for a few seconds. Then it came down from the north going south and then about a half mile to a mile off the ground it turned a dark to bright green a couple hundred feet around it and then it was traveling towards the ground with a Long tail burning. Looked green and blue. Then it came down and got really low to the ground before It looked like it was going to hit. It may have burnt out but don't know. Just thought it was awesome so I looked it up on the news and no one reported it. My other friend was on the phone about 30miles south of me when I saw it, and he saw it to and asked me if I saw it too. Just thought it was cool so went to this website when I looked up meteors and it said I could report it here if I saw anything. So I figured I would see what you guys knew. Thanks -Mark Merriott

Timmins, Ontario Meteor aug 27th 2011 9:45/9:50 pm eastern    A few of us were outside in our front yard at about 9:50 pm eastern, and from the northeast over our heads was a big ball of light that looked like it was on fire. Someone described it like a hot air balloon pulling its string. The ball flew over our houses and slowly got smaller and smaller until it just disappeared (within 3 minutes). The Ball was totally orange. Then about 10 minutes later we saw this very bright “star” which was the size of three stars combined zoom in the sky(about 1’-2 minutes). It just appeared and disappeared. After that there were 3 more bright lights that zoomed by (1 minutes from when it starts to when it disappears).
We were in our front yard on Martin Ave. It was coming from the North east.
Then we saw these two girls walking down the street and when we asked them if they saw anything they just heard a large bang and saw the other white lights sway by.

Ravenna, Ohio Meteor Spotted - Saturday, August 27th, 2011 - approx. 10pm 
standing in street facing northeast sky - two of us saw a VERY large meteor, (largest i have ever seen), cross from the east heading north. it had a very long tail - the whole thing was bluish white. it lasted 3-5 seconds max. it was ten times the brightness and size of venus. i am surprised there are no other sightings on here!! it was magnificent. thank you, -m. dillon  Thank you M. I saw this meteor as it fell. From my location (Miami, FL) I was facing north north east and saw it. It was the most incredible thing I have ever seen in my life. A huge, green fireball fresh out of space landing what looked like not 5 to 10 miles from me. Apparently, it landed about 300 miles away.

Saw green meteor in Lakeland, Florida

I saw a green glowing like fireball in the sky yesterday around 9:30 ish pm, when I was driving around lakeland, florida. I never heard of such a thing and decided to look it up online tonight and saw there were others who reported it. I have no idea what direction it was going, I'm not that great with direction I will try to find where I was at yesterday and bring my husband with me to show him and maybe he can give me the exact direction it was headed.
