Initial Meteor Sighting Reports-

I saw a large fireball/ meteor in the sky over Hobart tonight, 20th September at a little after 8.30pm. I was looking NW and it travelled to the west, lasted about 2 seconds, quite a golden fiery colour. It started small but got bigger and brighter before just going out, travelling fast! -Anna

Saturday 20 September 2014. Sighted in inner Melbourne shooting very brightly to the south down towards the CBD at around 20.30 (or at the precise point on the night's 7Mate screening of Apollo 13 when things started to go horribly wrong for Tom Hanks and Kevin Bacon). I just saw a HUGE and slow moving meteor/fireball overhead from hobart looking south, it was travelling northbound and looked pretty close and burning green/yellow. amazing. magnitude was great - almost as bright as the moon
SIZE = all up (without tail it was about 5 times the size of venus. three times the size of venus in the middle of its head (the brightest part which was white/yellow), and a greeny glow surrounded the rest and this outer part had a triangle/arrowhead shape. the tail wasnt very long at all compared with the common 'white line' meteors i have seen. absolutely amazing. -Gus
