The phone camera video is obviously not great, but whatever this was was descending slowly -- too slow to be a firework or anything like that. Some sort of burning space junk / meteor? For all I know it wasn't "over Chicago" but was just visible East of Chicago - hard to gauge distance, etc, obviously.

Florissant, MO gorgeous green meteor with a reddish orangish tail shortly before 9 p.m.

We were out in our front yard in Florissant, MO and saw a gorgeous green comet with a reddish orangish tail (so close you could even see the fire flaring). I was inside talking about it at 9:05 p.m. Central time so I'm guessing sometime shortly before 9 p.m.. It seemed to dissipate almost into thin air (or possibly the clouds?) just in the next subdivision -- one street over. It was incredible. It lasted long enough that it caused me to do a double take and alert my friend who was walking toward home a yard away -- she still had time to turn around and see it. My kids were also playing four houses down and saw it really well with their friends as well! -Anon,Florissant, MO

I sighted a green like firey ball falling from the sky, it was about tree level and seemed to have went out before hitting the ground it was about 8:30-8:45, I was out playing with my daughter and looked toward the combine shed and it was as if it was landing next to it in the field. I thought I was seeing things and my daughter being only 21 months well she can't verify for me, so I asked on facebook if was going crazy, and I was told about this meteor... June 2, 2011 around 10pm in Terre Haute, IN. I saw it from my backyard. The meteor came from the south and streaked toward the north in the western sky. It was a large bright green ball that sparked into several smaller pieces about 3/4 of the way into it's descent. -Melissa Powell

I saw the meteor last night 6/2/11 in St. Louis traveling from south to north. Didn't note the time (after 8:30ish). We were on the back porch, and I don't know if I was looking directly at the sky or if my peripheral vision first caught it, but it was so impressive and my reaction was so startling that my wife jumped out of her chair (thinking I saw a bug behind her) and still had time to see it continue. I caught it almost directly overhead and watched it into the distant north. It ducked behind some cloud cover for half a second but it seemed the whole deal lasted for 4 or 5 seconds.

I say the Meteor over St. Louis on 06.02.11 right around 8:45pm. I was driving North and saw a large blueish/green round object about as bright as the moon come shooting across the sky on my right hand side heading from South to the North at an extremely high rate of speed. It kept ducking in and out of clouds but as it seemed to pass through them it made the clouds light up and glow. -Richie

I was standing outside in Litchfield Illinois looking to the north about 8:48 p.m. and a light in the sky caught my attention up and to the left. First noticed the big green fireball tracking north behind thin clouds. Maintained brightness greater than the moon throughout it's course of approximately 5 seconds. On June 2, 2011 around 9pm, my 12 year old daughter said she saw a blueish green light going through the northwestern sky in a downward diagnal pattern toward the north and it lasted only about 15 seconds before it went under a cloud. She described it as a ball with a small yellowish white trail. We live about 8 miles south of Xenia, IL.

Approximately 50 miles S. of Indianapolis, approximately 10 p.m. EDT. - Bright orange ball, yellow tail, with round, white, glowing object at head of orange ball caught my attention while facing West. Instantly recognized and told person , "Charlie, look West Quick!". He turned in time to witness it as it disappeared above a cloud. Four of us saw it. Appeared to come from S.W. moving about 20 to 30 degrees West from North. Low on the horizon, and appeared moving parallel to horizon, coming from behind trees to the left and disappearing above a dark cloud. Seemed to have no effect on the cloud, as the cloud hung in the same general direction ten minutes or so after meteor disappeared. Have no idea how high it was of course, but the white, glowing ball appeared to be about the same size as the highest airliners you would see. Think seen same one, some are describing as green in color. It was the largest I've ever seen -Kelly Ridge

This fireball on june 2 @ 8:45pm CDT had amazing brightness as it was not dark out yet in New Athens, Illinois. I came around the corner of the house and saw the bright ball at 60 degrees up while looking to the North and it moved down toward the horizon shining through the cloud cover and disappearing twice behind thicker clouds. It must have been shining through the thinner clouds as it was an overcast sky that evening. The light lasted several seconds. - Randall Majzel

June 02, 2011 me and a buddy were looking SW in the sky when we seen a bright light that was all white in color with no tail on it that was traveling very fast for a couple seconds when it disappeared and reappeared 3 different times on the same path. just seconds later we seen a aircraft fly a big circle of the area of the light and then it headed N very fast.. i cant really confirm what it honestly was that i seen but it was pretty intense non the less. -Freddy

I saw the same shooting light in the sky around 10pm April 11th 2011! I followed it for about 3 or 4 seconds then it was gone. My husband and I couldn't figure out what it was! We're in Horicon, Wisconsin which is in between Milwaukee and Madison It was traveling from east to west.

Mount Pleasant, Iowa Meteor 10:02 p.m 11APR2011
I live in southeastern Iowa near Mount Pleasant. I was thrilled to see the blogs that I am sure was the same thing I saw. I was sitting on my deck when a bright light from the ESE that when it got overhead was orange and yellow to a greenish tail. It was huge. I have seen meteor showers before but nothing like this. It was visible for 6-8 seconds. I even had time to step up on a table to watch it longer as it dissapeared over my house. It was still lit up before the house got in my way. It was heading WNW. It was almost straight overhead of me so I had a great view. I thought maybe I heard a boom right after it left my view, but very distant and not very loud. I can not believe there has been nothing in the news here in Iowa. Hope you post this to your blog. - Ed H.

I am also looking for imformation about the shooting star last night, April 11 2011 seen about 10:15-10:30 CST. We live in South Beloit IL near the Wisconsin border. This "star" came from the southeast heading northwest. We see alot of shooting stars when sitting in our hot tub but this one was amazing. Bright with a nice sized tail. We never did see it burn out as it went behind clouds in the northwest sky. Spectacular! Sarah E

I had a feeling and the exact empty part of the sky I was looking at is where the object broke through and lit up like a 4th of July sparkler. I've never seen a meteor so bright and low, and it seemed to fly overhead for a long long while, and vanished into the horizon. -Anon.
