Ontario Meteor???? 1JUL2011

Oshawa, Ontario, Canada Meteor ~10:20pm. 1JUL2011
July 1 , 2011, 10:20pm. Oshawa, Ontario, Canada. Came from east, large fireball then after 10 seconds turned north, very quickly and disappeared. The brightest object in the sky. Took pictures but the exposure was too long because of the minimal light so its one big movement of light.no sounds. yellow, then bright orange. i thought it was a flare because of canada day fireworks or an airplane on fire but too fast and changing direction was odd. Aliens Spaceship? -Anon.

Southern Ontario Canada
ON July 01 2011 over Southern Ontario Canada I saw a large glow from the south east to the north west very fast for about 20 secs. Then 14 minutes later it passed on the same path again. Captured videos but with phone and did it no justice at all. Posted on you-tube  -Anon.
Sorry I never found your video on YouTube and I don`t have your link; thanks!

Gores Landing, Ontario, Canada
We live in the small community of Gores Landing, on the south shore of Rice Lake, which is in southeastern Ontario, Canada.
On July 1, 2011 we were sitting on our deck with friends when we saw what appeared to be a bright orange ball in the sky over the lake coming toward us at a very high rate of speed. It passed over us and had a constant sound th is hard for me to explain. The best I can do, is say that it reminded to of the sound a hot air balloon makes when the gas is released into the balloon but it was constant. I managed to get a very brief glimpse through the binoculars and looked like a huge ball of fire. There were 6 of us and no one could offer an explanation of what we had just seen. I think the time was around 11 pm.  -Anon.

Athens, Greece Large Meteor Fireball ~21:20 30JUN2011

Athens, Greece  Large Meteor Fireball ~21:20 30JUN2011
Athens, Greece ~21:20 30JUN2011. Yesterday me and my wife saw a "large" fireball on the sky. My immediate thought was that it was a meteorite, however it was remarkably large and you could distinguish a core of dark body in the middle with clearly shaped fire flames on top and bottom and a not so long tail of fire behind it (the sun was not set yet and there was a blue background). It seemed to fly at mid sky (as observed from the ground) and had an approximate West-Northwest direction. We saw it for about 3-4 seconds and it seemed strange as it disappeared almost as suddenly as it appeared. (not like the burning stars in the night that seem to burn off). This was by far the biggest and most spectacular thing I have seen in the sky. A.S.

Athens, Greece
I saw it too in Athens, the whole thing lasted about 20 seconds and it looked like it was half as bright as the full moon with a green colour. -Anon.

Kalamata, south Peloponnese, Greece
I saw it too! Just sitting down for a sea-side meal in Kitries (near Kalamata, south Peloponnese). Had just said to friends - maybe one of them should drive my car home afterwards as I intended to drink plenty of wine - when I shouted that I'd seen a meteor.
They suggested I was already past the limit...!
None of them were facing north as I had been.  -Anon.

Athens, Greece Meteor at 21:24 local time
I also saw that fireball you refered too in June 30 in Athens, Greece, at 21:24 local time from the location of Ymittos Square in Athens, the direction I saw the fireball going was on a E to N direction. With a bright green colour, a reddish tail and orange, yellow coloured fragments.
From my vantage point I could see it was traveling through the sky at about 5 degress per second and it suddently fragmented and disintegrated 30 degrees from the horizon exactly north from where I was.
Luckily I am also an amateur astronomer and I could see it was coming from the direction of either the constellation of Lyra or Bootes.
Hopefully there will be enough precise reports so to be able to triangulate the direction, speed and location of the fireball. -Chris Protopapas

Athens, Greece
I saw this too, from my home in Athens but I didn't know what it was! Amazing! So was it a meteor or something?!? :s

Belgium / Holland Meteor 1JUL2011

Belgium Meteor 11.50 pm (local time) 1JUL2011
I also saw a ball of fire heading for the east. Rather big, and with orange flashing flames. It was on the first of july 2011. About 11.50 pm (local time) in Belgium (Geel).
51° 10' 0" North, 5° 0' 0" East
Duration: about 1 minute
(comparison: looked like it was a satelite on fire) -Griet Liekens

Holland Meteor  2 July 00:24 local time (1 July 22:24 UTC).
There was a bright fireball this night (captured by a number of the Dutch all-sky stations), but 30 minutes after the quoted time, i.e. 2 July 00:24 local time (1 July 22:24 UTC).
The duration in this report is rather long, so it could be a satellite or a "Thai hot air balloon".

Scotland / Wales / United Kingdom Meteor(s) Fireball 1JULY2011

Renfrewshire, Scotland, United Kingdom Meteor Fireball 00:40 1JULY2011
On the 1st July 2011 at 00:40 I was on the M77 motorway just entered Renfrewshire, Scotland, United Kingdom from Kilmarnock to Glasgow. I saw a meteor fireball flew down at the far East side. I only noticed it at the last two seconds it disappeared from my sight. It is now summer time in UK, the sky was still bright even in night time but the meteor was even brighter and its in blue colour. I have no photo or video, I just saw it randomly. -Yuciy

Rhyl, North Wales
I live in Rhyl, North Wales and was looking approx north east at about the same time and I witnessed an orange streak across the sky that burnt out to a bright blue and orange....same one? -Anon.

East Midlands, UK Meteor 23.27 on 1st July 2011
My wife and I were by the Donington race track at 23.27 on 1st July 2011. Very clear sky. Meteor sighted to the south of us low in sky. Appeared to be large. Fireball with green and red coloured trail and quite "sparky". (Breaking up?) This was seen by someone else at the same time. Observer was near Rockingham, Northampton. he said it was travelling from North to South. It looked more West to East to us.
-Jill & Peter Chambers

Bakewell, Derbyshire, UK. 1st July 2011, 23:28
We were camping at Haddon Grove Farm near Bakewell and saw the meteor over towards the east. It was heading roughly south to North at a fairly steep angle. We initially saw it at quite a low altitude and it gave out two bursts of bright sparks before disappearing not far above ground level. The six of us who saw it had a rare treat!

AUSTRALIA Two Meteor Events 1JUL2011

Dandenong, VICTORIA, AUSTRALIA Meteor ~4.50am 1JUL2011
So I was driving towards Dandenong (AUSTRALIA VICTORIA) this morning at around 4.50am its the 1st of July and i thought I saw firework but quickly realized the flame and colors surrounding More Green and Blue and yellow)were not that of a firework as it flashed bright yellow and disappeared. Was i seeing things or has there been reports?? It truly was amazing and beautiful? -Anon

Princes Highway Doveton,Victoria
I reported a sighting in the sky this morning and was the most amazing thing i have ever seen. At first it looked like a falling star I was driving on Princes Highway Doveton,Victoria i was driving towards Power road it was moving the same as a falling star accept it turned bright green and blue like a traffic light. I looked down at the traffice lights ahead and back up as it turned bright yellow and flashed and disappeared? I was driving so I did not take any pictures and it happened so fast less than 30seconds from being bright green and blue to a yellow flash and gone. I would love to hear if there has been other reports there was traffic on the roads and it looked pretty close?
I have never seen anything like it and my friends think i had too much sleep :(( I came home and googled and apparently a large Meteor just past the earth as i have been in bed sick and not watching television as i dont have one i only know what i read and saw this morning.
Regards,. Zena Neighbour from Melbourne, Australia.

Melbourne, Australia
Walking to my car last night at 4:50am coming back from work, out the front of Crown Casino heading south, blankly staring at the sky trying not to fall asleep i saw the HUGE green ball falling with a purple/white tail, it was only for a few seconds and i wondered where it landed because it seemed to be so close to where i was. Then after i got in my car i sat there for a bit trying to figure out what i had seen or if i was just REALLY tired. After getting home and yelling at my boyfriend to wake up so i could tell him, i drifted of to sleep. Decided to google it today and i found this! Good to know im not crazy and actually did see something!
Regards, Stephanie: Melbourne, Australia

Well when did this site come into being? I seen one way back around the 20/10/1998; I think just before NEAR got going, anyway what I seen changed my view on the sky forever, I became intrested in Astronomy but I will never forget that day my girlfriend was with me at the time and she also seem it, has anyone ever seen what looked like a large rock as big as a bus on fire, I mean fire on the rock, I could tell it was spining, not only did I see the smoke spariling I see purple flames sparling behind the rock as well, if you would like to see my drawing please contact me on facebook seaye stephen. I would love to know if we were the only ones....good luck with the site it look brill... Anon.

Clayton, Melbourne Victoria at 7pm July 1st 2011
My partner and I were travelling east along Browns Road in Clayton, Melbourne Victoria at 7pm July 1st 2011 when we saw a bright yellow light travelling from the left to the right of the sky, falling on about a 45degree angle. The light burned bright yellow and white and travelled through the sky for at least ten seconds. It was clearly visible for a lot longer than the average falling star and it appeared closer to the earth that what an “average” falling star would appear. It burned brightly and clearly for several seconds before changing in colour to a vivid blue/green before eventually burning out. It had a very long tail and it looked more like a cartoon comet. It seemed to have a huge fire ball head. It looked almost like it would not burn up completely as it passed through the atmosphere and we wondered if some rock may have actually hit the earth. It initially appeared to both of us that an aircraft had actually fallen from the sky, that’s how close it appeared to be in relation to the earth. It seemed to eventually burn up and disappear. The colours were spectacular and unlike anything either of us had ever seen before. It is something we will both never forget. It was so completely different from a falling star. Mark and Marnie, Clayton, Melbourne, Victoria, AUSTRALIA

Melbourne Australia Meteor ~05:00 1JUL2011
Hello all, my name is Richard and i live in Melbourne Australia. Walking to my car at approximately 05:00 01/07/2011 when i turned around and saw a blue white neon like flame shoot downwards for about 2-3 secs. It was in the eastern sky because i checked it's relevance to the southern cross. I thought i heard a popping noise as it disapeared over the houses but i can't be absolutely sure. I love seeing this phenomena because you get a feeling of connection with the cosmos. -Richard Leigh

My dad saw exactly the same as you described just before 8pm looking out from keysborough on 01.07.11
