My name is Jescelle and my fiancee and I just saw a meteorite fly over Worcester,Massachusetts at 8:40 PM on January 29, 2011. It was a bright white fireball, about as big as the tip of your pinky at arms length, with a red "flare" looking tail that broke as it fly past. The red tail turned to green, and it dissipated. It was coming from the south West, going north east. It was beautiful but scary!
Thank you for the excellent report.!!!

Eye Witness of bright light in the sky
Hi There,
I found your site searching to see if anyone else saw what I saw this evening. I figure it would be cool to pass on what I saw too.
I live in Somverville MA, and around 8:30PM I saw a bright flash in the sky so I looked up. I saw a bright blue or green object with a long bright red trail behind it that lasted in the sky for about a second. Then a part of the object broke off and seemed to fall and disappear. The rest of the object kept flying through the air until it went out of view. It seemed to be continuing on its path unlike the other part that fell off.
Thanks for having a platform on the internet for people to report what they see in the sky! It was a truly amazing spectacle to see!
Cheers!
Anastasia H.

Possible Meteor?
Saw and heard a large boom in Carver, MA and other reports in Halifax and Braintree, MA. Nothing on the news though. -Mike

Reentry Observed Over LaGuardia (LGA)?
« on: Today at 03:26 AM »  NASA Spaceflight.com
During descent into LaGuardia Airport this evening a passenger aboard a commercial flight (SWA 3130) observed a "fireball" streaking across the sky. The aircraft was still above the clouds at the time, but had begun descent. (The flight is reported to have landed at 8:43 PM EST on 29 Jan 11.)
Could this have been e.g. the reentry of the upper stage from the recent HII-B launch?

I was in Harvard Square and got a photo of the meteorite on 01/29/2011 at 8:29pm--according to the Cambridge Savings Bank clock on their building in the photo.

I was in Milford, CT, looking out a window and I saw a bright green glowing object (appeared basketball sized in the night sky) with a green tail travel horizontally across the sky. It was visible for maybe 1-2 seconds before it went below the roofline on the horizon.

Back around 1975, during the winter, I saw and heard the "woosh" of a fireball to the northwest of my Washington, CT location.
No sonic boom, no sound of impact.
It appeared to fall below the tree line.
Any info on this fireball?
How close was I if I heard the woosh?
If it hit the ground, my guess is that it would have been in Washington, Warren, or northern New Milford.
